We are seeking a Lab Operations Engineer to support the development and sustainment of the U.S. Navy Aegis Weapon System in Moorestown, NJ.
This position supports second or third shift operations within a system integration laboratory. The role is responsible for independently maintaining laboratory readiness, loading and starting system software, operating consoles and simulators, troubleshooting startup and operational issues, documenting and coordinating resolution of system problems, and assisting laboratory users in meeting their integration and test objectives. This is a hands-on, on-site laboratory operations role requiring sound technical judgment and independent ownership of assigned shift activities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Link, configure, and load software builds on laboratory equipment suites.
Independently perform and coordinate laboratory startup, checkout, shutdown, and shift-turnover activities.
Operate system consoles, simulators, and supporting laboratory equipment.
Monitor system status and identify, analyze, and respond to startup, configuration, interface, and operational issues.
Perform technical troubleshooting using established procedures, system logs, diagnostic information, prior issue history, and knowledge of system and subsystem behavior.
Identify, isolate, reproduce, document, and retest laboratory and system issues.
Capture and analyze logs, traces, system status, and other diagnostic data to support issue resolution and root cause analysis.
Implement approved workarounds or mitigations and verify that laboratory operation has been restored.
Coordinate unresolved or complex issues with the appropriate software, integration, test, network, equipment, or system support personnel.
Assist laboratory users with system operation, troubleshooting, and execution of test activities.
Maintain laboratory operability, configuration control, and readiness throughout the assigned shift.
Coordinate laboratory activities, user needs, and equipment availability to support effective and uninterrupted laboratory use.
Provide clear and complete turnover information to the incoming shift, including laboratory status, active issues, workarounds, configuration changes, and required follow-up actions.
Requirements:
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance or other required authorization within the timeframe specified by applicable contract requirements.
Ability to work on-site in laboratory environments during either:
Second Shift: 4:00 p.m. to midnight, or
Third Shift: Midnight to 8:00 a.m.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
3–5 years of experience in lab operations, software integration, system test, or software engineering.
Experience with Linux/Unix environments.
Experience loading, configuring, starting, and supporting software-intensive systems.
Working knowledge of computer systems, software installation, operating systems, networking concepts, and distributed system environments.
Experience independently following and adapting documented technical procedures to address operational conditions.
Experience troubleshooting subsystem, interface, software, equipment, or network-related issues.
Experience collecting and analyzing system logs, diagnostic data, and observed system behavior to isolate problems.
Basic proficiency in Python or a similar scripting language.
Ability to independently manage assigned shift responsibilities while appropriately coordinating and escalating issues.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred but Not Required Experience:
Experience supporting integration laboratories, test laboratories, data centers, operations centers, or other controlled technical environments.
Experience supporting distributed systems, networked computing environments, or system-of-systems architectures.
Familiarity with pub/sub messaging systems.
Experience operating system consoles, simulators, remote terminals, monitoring tools, or diagnostic utilities.
Experience troubleshooting interactions among software, computing equipment, networks, simulators, and peripheral devices.
Experience developing or improving laboratory operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, or shift-turnover practices.
Familiarity with issue-tracking, configuration-management, and laboratory scheduling processes.
Experience providing technical guidance or on-the-job training to less-experienced personnel.
Previous military, DoD, shipboard, watch-standing, or shift-operations experience.
