ASRC Federal is seeking a reliable, organized, and detail‑oriented individual to join our team as an Entry‑Level Payroll Support Specialist, with primary responsibilities centered on mail processing, scanning, and distributing incoming payroll and payroll tax correspondence. This role is ideal for someone beginning a career in payroll administration or payroll tax support, with a strong interest in operational accuracy and document management.
Work location: Onsite in Reston, VA
Key Responsibilities
Mail Processing & Document Management
Receive, open, and sort all incoming payroll‑related mail, including payroll tax notices, agency correspondence, and employee documentation.
Scan, index, and electronically distribute mail to the appropriate payroll, tax, HR, or legal team members.
Maintain organized digital folders for scanned documents to ensure accurate record‑keeping and audit readiness.
Monitor incoming mail workflow to ensure timely identification and escalation of tax notices or urgent agency communications.
Support outbound mail processing, including preparing Fedex packets
Payroll Support Responsibilities
Respond to Tier 1 employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, timekeeping, or tax withholding.
Assist employees in understanding paystubs, taxes, and basic payroll calculations.
Escalate complex payroll or tax issues to senior payroll staff or HR.
Support the Payroll Director with ad hoc projects, reports, and file maintenance as needed.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
0–2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, administrative support, or payroll‑related experience.
Familiarity with payroll systems (e.g., Dayforce, ADP, Paychex) preferred but not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF applications.
Strong data entry accuracy; experience with reconciliations or document processing beneficial.
Ability to learn payroll and tax systems quickly.
High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and reliable follow‑through.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle confidential payroll and employee information responsibly.
Team‑oriented mindset and willingness to learn new tasks.
