- →At least 2 years administrative clerical experience to include substantial contact with the public.
Knowledge
- →Knowledge of basic office equipment and procedures regarding electronic communications, scanning, and filing
- →Knowledge of fire codes, prevention technology, and safety equipment
- →Basic knowledge of research principles and methods
- →Basic knowledge of data collection, validation, and analysis techniques
- →Basic knowledge of records management and documentation standards
Skills:
- →Skill in conducting research to determine applicable code requirement(s) for general applications
- →Skill in interpreting and applying complex laws, regulations, and policies to real-world scenarios
- →Skill in preparing clear, concise, and defensible documentation, including reports and violation notices
Abilities:
- →Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials
- →Ability to handle complaints professionally, negotiate, and solve problems
- →Ability to operate personal computers, reporting tools, and industry software platforms
Licenses and Certifications Required
- →Valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to operate a city vehicle, or otherwise demonstrate ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position
- →International Code Council (ICC) Certification in the International Fire Code will be required within 6 months of employment
Essential Personnel:
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
Physical Demands:
- →Light physical work requiring the ability to lift up to 20 pounds at a time with or without assistance
- →Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing
- →Ability to operate standard office equipment and computers with or without reasonable accommodation
- →Ability to review and interpret written materials and communicate effectively with others with or without reasonable accommodation
Work Environment:
- →Works both inside and outside in varying types of weather
- →Work may occur in a noisy environment with exposure to dust, chemicals, odors, and fumes
Equipment Used:
- →Uses standard office equipment including personal computers and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases
- →This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.

Applicants selected for safety-sensitive positions are required to complete and pass a drug screening as a condition of employment. Safety sensitive positions include Civil Service positions within Police and Fire Departments and positions where their job responsibilities have direct and substantial responsibility that would impact the health and safety of others.
