The award-winning operation consists of seven divisions (Golf, Open Space and Natural Resources, Parks Operations, Planning, Design and Construction, Recreation, Business Services and Communications) that collectively manage more than 8,000 acres of open space, 100+ parks, 180+ athletic fields, over 100 miles of trails, three nature centers, two reservoirs, five recreation centers, five golf courses, indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and one of Colorado's largest municipal urban forestry programs.

- →Responsible for choreography/planning of exercise classes
- →Develop exercise programs designed for a variety of levels in a small and/or large group setting
- →Keep effective communication during class with participants using verbal cues/corrections/guidance
- →Set up of equipment and music prior to class and breaking down/cleaning after class
- →Keep up with the new trends of fitness to implement in classes/programs
- →Modify exercise plans based on needs, potential injuries or health issues
- →Oversee the use of fitness equipment to ensure clients exercise properly and safely
- →Perform minor first aid and respond to emergencies if needed
- →Effectively motivate participants and clients
- →Perform other duties as assigned
This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

Plan, design, and teach group exercise classes for the City of Aurora’s recreation division.
Requirements

- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
- Medium work that involves moving no more than 50 pounds at a time
- Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- May require frequent pushing, pulling, bending and stooping.
- Teaching of fitness classes as scheduled.
- Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or outreach events in varying weather conditions
- Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and menu driven databases as a part of the Library automated systems
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
- Knowledge of fitness equipment and accessories.
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
