OVERVIEW OF JOB 

The Theatre Attendant plays an essential role in creating an exceptional patron experience at the Aurora Fox Arts Center. This role serves in a variety of front-of-house functions, including guest services, box office operations, concessions, ushering and house management. Team members provide outstanding customer service while ensuring performances and events operate safely, efficiently and professionally. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Oversee all front-of-house operations before, during and after performances. 

  • Coordinate with production staff, stage management and box office to ensure smooth operations. 

  • Make announcements as needed before performances. 

  • Manage late seating procedures and audience flow. 

  • Respond to patron concerns, emergencies and accessibility needs. 

  • Complete performance reports and incident documentation. 

  • Ensure lobby, auditorium and public areas are prepared for patrons and secured after performances. 

  • Serve as the primary front-of-house contact during performances. 

  • Sell, exchange and process tickets using the theater's ticketing system. 

  • Assist patrons with ticket purchases, subscriptions, promotions and general ticketing inquiries. 

  • Process payments accurately and balance cash drawers. 

  • Maintain confidentiality of patron information. 

  • Provide exceptional customer service by phone, email and in person. 

  • Assist with will-call distribution and performance check-in. 

  • Prepare and serve concessions, including alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, in accordance with applicable laws and city policies. 

  • Verify identification and responsibly serve alcoholic beverages. 

  • Operate the point-of-sale system and accurately process transactions. 

  • Stock concession inventory before performances and restock as needed. 

  • Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary concession area. 

  • Assist with inventory counts and communicate supply needs. 

  • Follow all health, sanitation and food safety guidelines. 

  • Scan tickets and assist with admissions. 

  • Greet, direct and seat patrons before performances and during approved late seating. 

  • Answer questions regarding performance, facilities, accessibility, parking and venue policies. 

  • Assist guests with accessibility accommodation and special seating requests. 

  • Distribute programs and promotional materials. 

  • Help maintain a clean, organized and welcoming lobby and public spaces. 

  • Resolve guest concerns professionally and escalate issues to the House Manager when appropriate. 

  • Enforce theater policies regarding late seating, photography, food and beverages and patron conduct. 

  • Support emergency procedures and venue evacuations when necessary. 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. 

Education:   

  • High School Diploma or GED 

Experience:   

  • 3 years of customer service experience 

  • Prior cash handling experience 

  • Experience in the performing arts sector 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience with ticketing software 

Knowledge: 

  • Basic accounting principles 

  • Microsoft Suite and Windows based programs 

  • Basic computer, ticketing systems and point-of-sale experience preferred. 

  • Strong customer service knowledge 

Skills:  

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. 

  • Strong verbal communication and conflict-resolution abilities. 

Abilities:   

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, all levels of management including executive staff, citizens, and elected officials 

  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor 

  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy 

  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and make quick decisions as needed 

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing 

Licenses and Certifications Required:   

  • Will be required to be CPR/AED certified and trained in TIPS alcohol training. Aurora Fox Theater will provide training for those not currently certified. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

Essential Personnel:  

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. 

  • Ability to climb stairs and assist patrons throughout the facility. 

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. 

  • Ability to work in low-light theater environments. 

  • Clear vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents 

  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens 

  • Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard and other office equipment 

 

Work Environment: 

  • Work is performed in an active theater environment with frequent interaction with patrons, artists and staff. Employees should be comfortable working with large crowds, varying noise levels and changing event schedules. 

Equipment Used: 

  • Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, and Excel 

  • This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment 

The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
