Under direct supervision, this position provides housekeeping, security, and facilities services throughout Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and the AUS campus.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Provides facility maintenance, security, emergency services, general and detailed cleaning and disinfecting services using heavy and specialized equipment, and moving and arranging services for airport terminals and campus.

  • Utilizes general housekeeping tools such as brooms, vacuums, mops, and dusters for sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, trash/recycle removal, etc.; operates vehicles; utilizes biohazard cleanup methods and monitors/replaces biohazard syringe boxes.

  • Prepares cleaning solutions by mixing and measuring a variety of cleaning substances.

  • Works in conjunction with airport personnel to ensure security and safety for airport facilities; ensures facility lockdown to include closets, offices, entrance and exit doors; and monitors for security breaches, unattended packages, and suspicious persons and activities, etc.; reports any unsafe and suspicious activity to appropriate personnel.

  • Evacuates customers and isolates airport facilities when emergencies arise such as security breaches, bad weather, and fire emergencies; inspects trash cans for suspicious items.

  • Responds to facility and event requests such as airline baggage system failures and contingencies, requests from airlines, City employees, airport tenants, biohazards and spills, and calls for lost and found items.

  • Provides customer service to passengers, tenants, and visitors by providing solicited and unsolicited information.

  • Performs administrative duties and responsibilities to include completing forms, logs, and personal timesheet; submitting work order requests and other requested documentation; and notifying supervisor of low inventory and work orders.

  • Ensures hand sanitizers are distributed at all checkpoints and exits to reduce/prevent the spread of disease and ensures expiration dates are current.

  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of janitorial processes and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and mandates; and City, departmental, State, and Local rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of FAA and TSA Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) regulations and requirements.

  • Knowledge of Airline Baggage Hygiene procedures.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with others.

  • Skill in identifying suspicious and unusual activities.

  • Skill in operating vehicles and janitorial housekeeping tools.

  • Ability to pass and maintain TSA and SIDA security requirements.

  • Ability to communicate via two-way radio.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.

  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to train others.

  • Ability to utilize computer software.

  • Ability to walk and stand continuously.

  • Ability to sit, bend, stoop, twist, climb, kneel, and crawl for periods of time.

  • Ability to reach and stretch overhead.

  • Ability to demonstrate repetitive hand and foot movement, finger dexterity, grasping, squeezing, and repetitive motions.

  • Ability to carry, lift, push, and pull up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted, with occasional climbing of stairs and ladders.

  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to vibrations, noise, mechanical and chemical hazards, fume and odor hazards, toxic waste and material hazards.

  • Ability to work with possible contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience related to janitorial services.

  • Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License within ninety (90) days of hire.

Under direct supervision, this position provides housekeeping, security, and facilities services throughout Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and the AUS campus.

7 days a week

2nd Shift - 2:00PM – 11:00PM

3rd Shift - 10:00PM – 7:00AM

Shift may change according to departmental needs; work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekend work.

$22.48 - $25.24

This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties, and the individual will be required to drive a city vehicle. Position will also be required to drive on the AOA. The successful candidate must be in possession of a Texas driver's license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code. A driving record verification will be conducted. Applicants for positions for which City driving is an essential function must meet the standards of the program: age 18 or older, current applicable driver’s license, proof of insurability and no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) based on the Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Driver Record Report. Shift work includes shift differential incentive for evening and night shifts and weekends.

This position is categorized as essential personnel. Essential personnel are required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport if they are scheduled to work, and in some cases when they are not scheduled.
