This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Collects residential compost/recycle/garbage from 700-1500 homes a day across the City of Austin. Employees work on and around large commercial vehicles such as Rear Loader commercial vehicles and transport materials to designated processing facilities. Duties include performing routine vehicle checks (cleaning, refilling fluids, pre and post inspections), reading street maps to locate route destinations, operating fleet technology, maintaining vehicle records, and training others in proper equipment use—all while providing courteous customer service to residents along the route. This is a physically demanding, outdoor position that requires frequent stretching, bending, lifting, and stooping in various weather conditions.

Supports Austin Resource Recovery by keeping creeks, watersheds, underpasses, right‑of‑ways, illegal dumpsites, and encampment areas clean. This role involves removing litter, debris, and bulk items from both active and inactive encampment sites. The work includes hand‑collecting litter and bulk materials, entering and exiting refuse collection vehicles, and stepping on and off the rear platform using hand and foot holds pulling your own body weight.  This is a physically demanding, outdoor position that requires frequent stretching, bending, lifting, and stooping in various weather conditions.

Thia team provides daily cleaning of downtown areas, illegal dumpsites, rights-of-way and during special events.  They operate backpack blowers, collect hand-picked litter and will perform pre and post trips on equipment. Curbside Collections: Monday – Friday: 5:30a.m. – 2:00p.m.

Underpass/Clean Creeks: Monday – Friday: 6:30a.m. – 3:00p.m.

Litter Control: Wednesday – Saturday: 2:30a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Litter Control: Sunday – Wednesday: 2:30a.m. – 1:00p.m.

Employees are assigned to work groups and shifts according to business needs. Employees must also be available to work holidays, weekends, after hours, seasonal shift changes, and in other work groups as needed to meet business demands.
