In this 10-month contract as Data Governance Lead, you will help uplift data governance across Australian Ethical by establishing a practical framework, clear ownership model, and the policies, standards and controls needed to improve data quality, accountability and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and embed data governance policies, standards, controls and practical ways of working across the business
  • Define data ownership, stewardship and accountability across key business domains, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clear
  • Identify Critical Data Elements and support risk assessments with Data Owners to determine what data is most important to the organisation
  • Set data quality standards and monitoring processes to improve the accuracy, completeness and reliability of key data sets
  • Design issue management processes to support timely detection, escalation, remediation and ongoing monitoring of data issues
  • Partner with Internal stakeholders and external vendors to understand data flows, risks and business requirements
  • Support governance forums and working groups to drive adoption, accountability and alignment with CPG 235 expectations
  • Deliver training to help teams understand and apply data governance policies, standards and controls in day-to-day practice

You are a pragmatic, delivery-focused data governance professional who can design practical frameworks, bring stakeholders together and turn policy into measurable adoption. You bring a strong risk mindset, clear communication style and the confidence to work across business and technology teams to lift data governance maturity in a regulated environment.

 If you have the following, we’d love to hear from you:

  • Minimum 4+ years’ relevant data or information governance experience, including hands-on framework design and implementation
  • Financial services experience, ideally across superannuation, banking or funds management
  • Strong experience designing and embedding data governance policies, standards and controls across core data governance domains in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent understanding of CPG 235 and how it applies to data management, controls and risk
  • Experience defining data ownership, stewardship, Critical Data Elements, data quality and lineage
  • Knowledge of data retention, archiving and destruction practices
  • Strong internal and external stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across business, technology and vendor groups.
  • Tertiary background in Data Information Management or a related discipline
