The Ashburn Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department (AVFRD) is seeking a motivated, technically skilled, hands-on volunteer with a background in mechanical, industrial, or electrical engineering to support the Facilities Team at Station 6. This role focuses on repairs, preventive maintenance, and improvements to station infrastructure and systems that support emergency response operations.

Responsibilities
- Assist with the inspection, maintenance, and upkeep of Station 6 facilities
- Support troubleshooting and evaluation of building systems, including:
- Mechanical systems (HVAC, pumps, compressors, plumbing, etc.)
- Electrical systems (lighting, power distribution, backup systems)
- General facility infrastructure and equipment
- Provide technical input and recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance
- Assist with documentation, maintenance planning, and coordination with contractors or county services as needed
- Support facility-related projects and improvements to ensure station readiness and safety
- Develop annual budgets for facilities activities
- Work collaboratively with AVFRD leadership and lead the facilities team volunteers to ensure that information is communicated effectively, and all team members are provided the opportunity to help where needed.
Qualifications
- Background or education in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
- Practical hands-on experience with building systems, maintenance, or industrial equipment is preferred
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to volunteer time on a flexible schedule and respond to critical issues
- Interest in supporting fire and rescue operations through behind-the-scenes technical support
