Master Thesis - Loudspeaker Array Beamforming algorithms
Quick Summary
Signal Processing and Acoustics
2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each
Acoustic beams from loudspeaker arrays can be controlled using several well-known algorithms. Performance evaluation is often conducted in idealized simulation environments assuming omnidirectional sources.
The objectives below are suggestions rather than strict requirements. We will decide together which objectives to focus on and whether to adjust them to fit your interests and the direction of the thesis.
- Measure and characterize imperfections in a physical loudspeaker array like driver variations, directivity patterns and inter-element acoustic leakage.
- Quantify the relative impact of each imperfection on beam focus and algorithm robustness.
- Compare theoretical algorithm performance against measured results and identify which design factors matter most.
- Investigate, evaluate and suggest methods for calibration.
For this thesis proposal we target students with strong interests in acoustics, audio signal processing, and experimental validation. Most likely you are studying a Master Program in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Audio Technology, or Acoustics.
- Applications are accepted in both Swedish and English, and you apply via the proposal advert.
- The announced thesis is open only to students affiliated with a Swedish University/College either directly or via an exchange program.
- When the thesis proposal states that it includes two students working together, we would like you to apply in pairs. In these cases, send one application each but make sure to clearly state in your application who your co-applicant is. If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact us.
- Please attach your CV and University/College grade summary.
