Retail operations move fast, and the HR support needs to keep up. If you are an experienced HR generalist or HRBP who prefers being a trusted advisor on the ground rather than just an administrator in an office, this role gives you the platform to manage the full People and Culture lifecycle.

You will be partnering with a major South African retail brand to support their service functions and line managers across the West Rand.

This is a true business partnering role where you have a direct impact on operational delivery. You will not just be enforcing policies; you will be coaching line managers, driving performance management, and guiding localised employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Advising Line Management: Act as the go-to partner for service functions, translating business needs into practical people plans.
  • Employee Relations: Manage disciplinary, grievance, and counselling matters directly, ensuring full compliance with BCEA, LRA, and POPIA.
  • Talent and Onboarding: Partner with the central Talent Acquisition team to forecast staffing needs, guide hiring choices, and manage the onboarding process.
  • Performance and Capability: Facilitate goal-setting, coach managers on performance conversations, and identify high-potential talent for succession planning.
  • Transformation and Culture: Drive Employment Equity initiatives at the site level and embed the group's established culture framework.

We need someone who understands the specific dynamics of a corporate or retail environment. The requirements are straightforward:

  • Qualification: A Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Industrial Psychology. An Honours degree is advantageous.
  • Experience: 4 to 6 years of experience as an HR Generalist or HRBP specifically within a retail environment.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of South African labour legislation and hands-on exposure to EE, BBBEE, and Skills Development (SD) legislation.
  • Systems: Experience with HRIS systems like SAP, Oracle, or SuccessFactors is highly advantageous.
  • Logistics: South African citizenship, a valid driver's license with reliable transport, and a clear MIE (criminal and credit check). Occasional travel is required for this role.
