From the depths of the ocean, to the far reaches of space, there’s no limit to where a career at BAE Systems could take you.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to apply your knowledge and technical experience in the engineering specification, development, clearance and support of Propulsion Systems in Military Aircraft. This is a good opportunity to consolidate core systems engineering principles, with exposure to different aspects of the engineering lifecycle and engagement with different interfacing disciplines, suppliers and customers.

The role will also come with opportunities to travel within the UK and internationally and to experience working with internationally diverse teams including other aircraft companies and Engine manufacturers.

  • Creation of specifications, development of the propulsion product and entry into service of cutting edge propulsion equipment, ensuring full integration with complex interfacing systems on the aircraft. This is to be done in line with project requirements, agreed standards and procedures, and whilst maintaining quality, cost and schedule adherence
  • Liaising with other engineering and project areas in a collaborative environment to develop engineering solutions
  • Planning and delivering engineering tasks dependent on lifecycle phase which could include requirements development, system and equipment design and development, trade studies, technology management and selection, modelling and analysis, system integration, qualification and certification, testing (physical and simulated), and Safety Case delivery
  • Reviewing specifications, reports and proposals, ensuring technical accuracy and task requirements have been achieved

  • Degree or equivalent experience or qualification in relevant STEM subject (Aeronautical / Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Physics/Maths/Science)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work
  • Proven experience in Propulsion, Mechanical, Fluid or Control Systems Engineering, preferably in an aerospace application or in a similar engineering or technology focused industry. Chartered Engineer or actively progressing towards Chartership with a recognised organisation
  • Ability to apply previous learning and experience to offer guidance and support to others
  • Ability to effectively research system design data and apply to complex problems

As a Senior Flight Systems Engineer within the Propulsion Integration team, you will be responsible for a variety of activities contributing to the integration of the propulsion system onto the aircraft. You will be involved in aspects of the full engineering lifecycle which could include anything from concept development, trade studies, requirements definition, safety assessment, integration testing and Qualification/Certification.

Here you’ll build a career with purpose and limitless possibilities. With lifelong learning and meaningful work, this is a place where you can grow your career with confidence and be empowered to be your best. You’ll be recognised for your contribution and enjoy rewards tailored to what’s most important to you and your family, support for your financial and personal wellbeing, as well as a balanced lifestyle. In an environment embracing sustainable ways of working and with a strong sense of shared purpose, our supportive culture is a place you can feel you belong and proud of the difference you make.

We’re committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. We know that a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences strengthens our teams and is vital to the work we do.

Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to both security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform within the organisation. All applicants must as a minimum achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.

Closing Date: 2nd November 2026

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
