CAD Technician - HV Overhead Line Structures

BakerHicks has experienced significant growth within the Transmission & Distribution sector over the past decade, securing an extensive portfolio of major infrastructure projects across the UK.

As part of our continued expansion, we are looking for a CAD Technician - HV Overhead Line Structures to join our specialist Overhead Line (OHL) team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to some of the UK's most critical energy infrastructure projects, including the National Grid's ambitious Great Grid Upgrade programme, the largest overhaul of the UK's electricity network since the 1960s.

Working alongside experienced engineers and designers, you will play a key role in the development of high-quality 3D models and technical drawings that support the delivery of overhead line projects across the transmission network.

• →Producing 3D models and drawing deliverables for HV Overhead Line projects using Tekla Structures.
• →Collaborating closely with OHL engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness of design deliverables.
• →Creating detailed models, general arrangements, schematics and construction drawings.
• →Ensuring all deliverables comply with BakerHicks and client CAD standards.
• →Supporting site surveys and incorporating survey data into design models and drawings.
• →Processing, updating and maintaining engineering drawings and records.
• →Performing quality checks and contributing to a "right first time" delivery culture.
• →Identifying opportunities to improve workflows, standards and team processes.
• →Supporting multidisciplinary project teams to develop integrated engineering solutions.
• →Providing guidance and technical support to junior CAD technicians where appropriate.

• Proven experience using Tekla Structures within an engineering design environment.
• Strong 3D modelling and technical drafting capabilities.
• Experience producing accurate and high-quality engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of CAD standards and document control processes.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
• A proactive and collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams.

• Experience within the Transmission & Distribution, utilities, infrastructure or energy sectors.
• Knowledge of HV Overhead Line projects, tower modelling, set drawings and wire clearance drawings.
• Experience with:
• AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT
• Bentley MicroStation
• Autodesk Fusion
• Civil 3D
• Autodesk Revit
• Experience supporting site surveys and redline drawing updates.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior CAD technicians.

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
