IT Associate provides support and assistance. Primary focus may be in the areas Ofcomputer operations. computer repair, wire and cable installation, user and desktop support(hardware and software), helpdesk, and data management.
- Installs hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers and disk drives on users' premises.
- Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components and office applications.
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information
- Assists in the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users' requirements
- Provides telephone, in-person and online support to end-users.
- Provides updates, status and completion information to manager and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication.
- Connects users to networks and provides initial training in facilities and applications.
- Achieves computer system objectives by gathering pertinent data; identifying and evaluating options; recommending a course of action.
- Confirms program objectives and specifications by testing new programs; comparing programs with established standards; making modifications.
- Places hardware into production by establishing connections; entering necessary commands.
- Maximizes use of hardware and software by training users; interpreting instructions; answering questions.
- Maintains system capability by testing computer components.
- Develops knowledge of systems software by studying technical manuals and by observing software
- Supports mobile devices and has knowledge of multiple OS versions such as Android OS and Apple IOS and mobile apps
- Travels to perform onsite activities related to installation, repair, management and maintenance.
- Uses critical thinking in solving issues that don’t always have obvious solutions

~1 min read- Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and enhancement of microcomputer systems and mainframe client servers.
- Knowledge of the interrelationship of systems analysis, computer programming, and information technology operations.
- Knowledge of current trends and developments in network-based communications systems.
- Knowledge of computer-based communications protocols.
- Skill in developing database queries and generating reports.
- Skill in installing, repairing, and troubleshooting network programs, hardware, and systems.
- Ability to analyze, apply logic and solve technology problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, management, technical co-workers and support specialists, and system users.
- Ability to schedule and perform preventative and corrective maintenance procedures and repairs.
- Ability to write detailed technical reports and analyses.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of computer systems software and operating systems.
- Ability to develop systems software and systems software testing procedures.
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-MONTH mandatory probation.
This position is required to complete a Financial Disclosure pursuant to Sections 7-7, 7-8, and 7-9 of the City Ethics Law. The initial financial disclosure must be submitted within 30 days of hire.
