~1 min readPOSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for conducting routine patient registrations, may validate and/or obtain authorizations for same day procedures. Verifies eligibility and benefits, generates patient estimates for services rendered, and collects patient liability within established protocols. Demonstrates the ability to resolve customer issues and provides excellent customer service. This position provides training for new hires as well as support to any new workflows and processes implemented with staff and offers on-going guidance as needed for the Patient Access team. Senior Representatives function as the primary resource/subject matter expert (SME) for team member workflow questions and concerns. This position may require assisting with department callouts and/or staff scheduling. This position also may assist with reporting functions.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Executes all Patient Access Representative registration functions and responsibilities. Demonstrates consistent achievement of registration standards in alignment with department goals.
2. Serves as SME within the individual's respective department. May cover services that are 24/7. Disseminates and/or communicates education materials and updates to PAS staff. Works independently under regular supervision, following structured work routines. Adapts to a high volume, fast paced, clinical environment by applying critical thinking and independent decision making. Prioritizes work to ensure timeliness of each patient's registration. Assists management in overseeing the workflow for the given shift.
3. Demonstrates an advanced understanding of insurance guidelines for all services, including advanced understanding of payer authorization guidelines. Verifies, reads, and comprehends insurance benefits, and articulates a patient's insurance benefits in terminology the patients or their agent can understand.
4. Discusses financial liability consistently with patient(s) and/or families, including collection in full of patient liability, assisting patients in applying for Banner Line of Credit, and setting up payment plans.
5. Models Banner behaviors and values as an example to peers. Demonstrates a positive patient experience through interactions and effective communication, including the ability to resolve customer issues.
6. Obtains federal/state compliance information, consents, and documentation required by the patient's insurance plan(s). Accurately completes hospital-based compliance forms required by CMS.
7. Performs assigned functions such as transporting patients, training new hire employees, assisting with department callouts and/or scheduling, including taking on-call assignments, or conducting other work assignments of the Patient Access Services team.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED is required.
Must have customer service skills or knowledge of patient financial services, financial, collecting services or insurance industry experience processes normally acquired over three or more years of work experience.
Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Requires strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of audiences. Strong knowledge in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, database software, and typing ability are required.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral, and BUMG, BUMCT, or BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree in Business Management is preferred.
CHAA certification is preferred.
CRCR within 2 years of entering position preferred.
Previous patient access and/or cash collections experience is preferred. Work experience with the Company’s systems and processes is preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
