To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

  • To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.

Join us as Lead AEM developer at Barclays, where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions.  

To be successful as a Lead AEM Developer, you should have experience with:

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain AEM components, templates, dialogs, workflows, services, Sling Models, servlets, filters, schedulers, and reusable authoring capabilities.
  • Build AEM solutions using AEM Sites, Adobe Core Components, editable templates, content fragments, experience fragments, client libraries, Java, OSGi, Sling, JCR, and HTL.
  • Contribute to the full AEM development lifecycle including requirement analysis, estimation input, development, unit testing, code reviews, build activities, deployments, defect fixes, and production support.
  • Work on AEM Author and Publish environments and support troubleshooting across local, lower, and production-like environments.
  • Collaborate with architects, leads, product owners, QA, DevOps, UX, frontend developers, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, dependencies, risks, and implementation approach.
  • Implement clean, modular, maintainable, and reusable code aligned with AEM development standards and enterprise engineering guidelines.
  • Support frontend integration using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, client libraries, responsive UI patterns, and modern frontend frameworks where applicable.
  • Support headless and hybrid AEM use cases using content fragments, experience fragments, GraphQL, Sling Model Exporters, REST APIs, and JSON-based content delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve AEM issues including OSGi bundle issues, package installation problems, dispatcher/cache behaviour, build failures, workflow issues, runtime defects, and environment-specific issues.
  • Support security and compliance requirements using secure coding practices, XSS protection, AntiSamy, Granite security framework, ACLs, service users, and secret management practices.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies, provide regular updates, raise blockers early, and contribute to quality-first delivery.
  • Write and maintain unit tests and support QA validation using JUnit, Mockito, AEM Mocks, and relevant automation/testing tools.
  • Maintain code quality through peer reviews, static analysis, SonarQube compliance, documentation, and adherence to CI/CD and release processes.
  • Stay current with AEM platform changes including AEM as a Cloud Service, AEM 6.5/LTS releases, service packs, Java upgrades, Adobe Cloud Manager updates, deprecations, and Adobe recommended practices.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Strong hands-on experience in Adobe Experience Manager development.
  • Experience with AEM Sites, AEM Assets, editable templates, Core Components, content fragments, experience fragments, workflows, dialogs, and authoring capabilities.
  • Strong backend development experience using Java, OSGi, Apache Sling, Sling Models, JCR/Oak, servlets, filters, schedulers, and event handlers.
  • Experience with HTL/Sightly, client libraries, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and responsive web development.
  • Experience developing reusable AEM components and services aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Good understanding of AEM Author, Publish, Dispatcher, caching, and deployment architecture.
  • Experience with Maven, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Adobe Cloud Manager, Jenkins or similar build/deployment tools.
  • Experience with REST APIs, GraphQL, JSON, and third-party system integrations.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across AEM application, build, deployment, and runtime layers.
  • Understanding of secure coding practices, OWASP guidelines, XSS protection, AntiSamy, CSP, service users, and access control.
  • Experience writing unit tests using JUnit, Mockito, and AEM Mocks.
  • Good understanding of Agile delivery, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, user stories, acceptance criteria, and defect management.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and ownership skills.
  • Hands-on experience as an AEM Developer, AEM Full Stack Developer, or AEM Backend Developer.
  • Experience delivering enterprise-scale digital platforms using AEM 6.5, AEM as a Cloud Service, or Adobe Managed Services.
  • Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating with distributed engineering, QA, DevOps, architecture, and business teams.
  • Experience supporting development, maintenance, enhancements, production fixes, upgrades, migrations, or platform modernisation activities.
