We’re looking to grow our business with innovative people who can contribute to our company culture and vision.  We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant with 5+ years of experience in general accounting.  This role is responsible for assisting the Director of Accounting prepare financial statements, review and reconcile Balance Sheet accounts, and assist with year-end review and financial close duties.

 

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a critical, high-impact role in supporting the Director of Finance by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the organization’s financial records. Serving as the primary point of contact for the accounting team, this position bridges daily operations and executive finance leadership. Utilizing 5+ years of advanced corporate accounting experience, the Senior Accountant will take full ownership of the general ledger (GL), drive complex inventory reconciliations, and lead the execution of month-end and year-end financial close processes to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.

  • Director Support & Team POC: Serve as the primary point of contact for the daily accounting function, triaging issues for the team and providing direct, high-level operational support to the Director of Finance.
  • Inventory Reconciliations: Own the end-to-end inventory accounting process; perform regular roll-forwards, reconcile sub-ledgers to the GL, investigate variances (shrink, scrap, cost discrepancies), and partner with operations/warehouse teams to ensure accurate valuation.
  • General Ledger (GL) Ownership: Maintain and balance the general ledger by reviewing subsidiary accounts, preparing complex trial balances, and posting adjusting journal entries to ensure absolute data integrity.
  • Month-End & Year-End Close: Lead the close cycle by establishing timelines, preparing and reviewing journal entries, and executing balance sheet reconciliations (cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and inventory).
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Compile and analyze asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries to assist the Director of Finance in preparing monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports.
  • Audit Facilitation: Act as the lead liaison for external audits, preparing comprehensive schedules, analyzing GL accounts, and providing documentation to ensure smooth review processes.
  • Compliance & Tax: Ensure corporate compliance by recording and remitting multi-state sales tax from customers, keeping up-to-date with changing tax regulations.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively identify inefficiencies in the month-end close or inventory tracking systems and implement robust internal controls and process improvements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • No direct line management/supervision, but acts as a functional leader, mentor, and first point of escalation for staff within the department.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Experience: 5+ years of general accounting experience, with a heavy emphasis on corporate environment GL maintenance and inventory accounting.
  • Seniority: 2+ years of experience explicitly in a Senior Accountant or equivalent functional lead role.
  • Tax: Multi-state sales tax experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Inventory Expertise: Deep understanding of inventory valuation methods (FIFO, LIFO, Standard Costing) and sub-ledger-to-GL reconciliation workflows.
  • Leadership Presence: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to act as a supportive peer/leader to staff and a reliable right hand to the Director of Finance.
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional attention to detail, precision in data handling, and strong problem-solving skills for resolving complex GL discrepancies.
  • Time Management: Highly deadline-oriented with a proven track record of managing competing priorities to hit strict month-end close targets.
  • Communication: Clear, concise communication skills for translating financial data into actionable insights for leadership.
