Controls Engineer

BW Papersystems is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our engineering team. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining control system software for industrial machinery. You will work on implementing control algorithms, data file structures, and machine interfaces using PLC ladder logic, structured text and function block diagrams. This role plays a key part in both new product development and sustaining engineering efforts, with significant customer-facing interaction and international travel.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Design, implement, and troubleshoot control algorithms and machine-based software systems.
- →Develop and maintain programs that support machine operation, data collection, diagnostics, and communication with peripheral equipment.
- →Collaborate with sales, service, and engineering teams to define technical and functional specifications.
- →Support machine checkout, installation, and commissioning by providing control system software documentation and assistance.
- →Interface directly with customers to resolve software-related issues and ensure systems meet expectations.
- →Produce and update operation manuals, diagnostic guides, and technical documentation.
- →Stay current with evolving control system architectures and technology trends.
- →Mentor and support less experienced engineers as needed.
- →Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial controls development; manufacturing environment experience preferred.
- Proficient in PLC programming (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, B&R).
- Experience with assembly-level languages, Visual C++, and other high-level programming languages is a plus.
- HMI application programming knowledge is a plus.
- Strong understanding of control theory and its application.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
What We Offer
~1 min readThe approximate pay range for this position is $95,000 – $105,000. This range is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, background, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
