Position:            Communications Coordinator

Reporting to:      Lead, Communications

Location:             Remote, British Columbia

Hours:                37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday / some evenings & weekends)

Term:                  June 2026 to February 28, 2027 (With the possibility of extension) (based on

                            funding approval)

 

As Communications Coordinator, you are passionate about creating engaging messaging and storytelling that helps people, from youth to seniors, understand invasive species and take ‘invasive-wise’ actions to help steward lands and waters in B.C. You collaborate virtually with a dynamic team to share key messages. Your role focuses on writing articles, managing social media, sharing stories, creating graphic designs, and supporting a range of communication needs.

The Invasive Species Council of BC works with people in B.C. and partners across the province to address invasive species issues and promote stewardship of the lands, waters and communities. Invasive species impact individuals, communities, and economic sectors like agriculture and forestry. In this role, you will work on diverse ISCBC programs designed to support different people, businesses, organizations, and governments affected by or working on invasive species issues.



RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Strong writing and storytelling to engage the reader

  • Create video and graphic content for social media, advertising, and e-learning courses

  • Support the development and implementation of communications plans for public awareness campaigns

  • Develop program resources and messaging, to s50,000upport community stewardship projects and participation in ISCBC’s programs and events

  • Ideally, develop graphics to support communication and outreach and virtual and in-person presentations

  • Support the development and delivery of internal engagement activities (e.g. weekly newsletters, virtual coffee chats)

  • Support the development and design of key organizational resources, such as the annual report, research reports, posters, signage, etc.

  • Support media and press activities by gathering information for press releases, assisting with interview preparation, and maintaining records of completed media coverage for reporting

 

What skills and strengths you will bring as Communications Coordinator:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and write clearly and simply
  • Experience working with online communication tools (e.g., social media platforms, email tools, or website content systems)

  • Experience creating and posting social media content for an organization, project, or campaign

  • Ideally, experience with graphic design

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

  • Motivated, resourceful, and comfortable taking initiative
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills in relation to this role and non-profit work

 

Other relevant skills you may have:

  • Experience with a variety of communication tools, including Constant Contact, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar
  • Experience or education in communications, marketing, or a related field (including school or volunteer experience)
  • Knowledge and/or interest in invasive species and/or stewardship

 

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time (while flexible), remote position based in British Columbia, Canada.

 

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $50,000- $57,000. Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
