This role is responsible for supporting the teaching, learning, and research of Beloit College students, faculty, and staff, with particular focus on collaborating with academic and student service departments. This role engages in the design, delivery, and assessment of programming, resources, and instruction to support curricular and co-curricular student needs. The Instruction and Student Engagement Librarian provides specialized research support, instruction, outreach, and collection development for a number of departments and schools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, facilitate, and assess innovative information and digital literacy outreach programs and associated learning activities aligned with curricular and co-curricular programs.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with academic and student service departments to encourage collaboration in research and instruction.
  • Identify, implement, and promote student success through information literacy, digital literacy, and academic skill initiatives.
  • Participate in an ongoing, innovative program of academic and research support for students in collaboration with LITS staff.
  • Provide reference and research support in a variety of modalities for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Engage in collection development in collaboration with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Maintains and updates research guides.
  • Serves as Federal Depository Coordinator, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and providing relevant reference and instruction services.
  • Maintains the federal and state government documents collection; prepares reports required by the Federal Depository Library Program; assesses holdings, print retention, and online access to materials.
  • Develops and implements an outreach program to promote awareness of government resources to the campus and local community.
  • Collaborates with department and college stakeholders to educate about government documents.
  • Creates informative and engaging displays on a diverse range of topics relevant to the community.
  • Creates and coordinates outreach and programming opportunities, collaborates with campus stakeholders, and participates in campus events.
  • Facilitates assessment initiatives to inform decision-making around programming, outreach, and library services.
  • Collaborates with student service departments and student life units
  • Fosters user-focused collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
  • Serves on library and campus community meetings, teams, or committees.
  • Engages in local, regional, national, and/or international professional societies.
  • Contributes to the profession through organizational work, presentations, and/or publishing.
  • ALA-Accredited Master's Degree in Library Science or international equivalent
    • Applicants nearing completion of the MLS degree may be considered; however, the degree must be completed prior to the anticipated start date in January 2027. 
  • Coursework or experience in instruction, reference, and outreach.
  • Knowledge of current pedagogy trends, instructional and research methods, assessment, outreach, and information and digital literacy principles preferred.
  • Strong commitment to engaging users and providing excellent service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a rapidly-changing environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent, collaborative working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and ability to work effectively in a diverse academic setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • The physical demands of the position include:
    • Visual ability to safely and effectively operate equipment, read computer screens, and printed materials;
    • Hearing and speaking abilities to effectively communicate through the telephone and in person;
    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
