Bessemer Trust is seeking a Tax Reporting Lead Analyst to join the Data & Tax Operations team. This role serves as a technical subject matter expert for the firm's nonresident alien (NRA) withholding and information reporting function, with primary responsibility for Forms 1042 and 1042-S.
The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 (FATCA) withholding, Forms W-8, tax treaty benefits, Form 1042/1042-S reporting, and related reconciliations. The role also provides secondary support for domestic information reporting, including Forms 1099, 1099-R, and 5498.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Own the end-to-end Form 1042-S reporting process, including data validation, reconciliation, filing, corrections, and amendments.
- →Perform Form 1042 reconciliation, including Forms 1042-S, withholding liabilities, federal tax deposits, and IRS account transcripts; research and resolve discrepancies.
- →Serve as a subject matter expert on Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 (FATCA) withholding and reporting requirements, including withholding rates, recipient classifications, exemptions, and tax treaty benefits.
- →Review and interpret Forms W-8 to determine documentation validity, recipient status, applicable withholding rates, treaty eligibility, and reporting requirements.
- →Provide technical guidance on the NRA withholding and reporting implications of corporate actions, income distributions, and other complex or cross-border transactions.
- →Monitor regulatory developments affecting NRA withholding and information reporting and assess the impact of changes on operational processes and systems.
- →Partner with Operations, Technology, and other stakeholders to resolve complex tax reporting issues and support system enhancements, testing, automation, and process improvements.
- →Provide secondary support for Forms 1099, 1099-R, and 5498 year-end reporting.
Requirements
~2 min read- 5–7+ years of directly relevant tax information reporting experience, with substantial hands-on experience in Forms 1042/1042-S and NRA withholding.
- Advanced knowledge of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 (FATCA), Forms W-8, and applicable tax treaty and withholding requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with Form 1042/1042-S reconciliation and IRS account transcript analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently research and resolve complex tax withholding and reporting issues.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and regulatory deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex tax matters and collaborate effectively across business and technology teams.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Taxation, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Experience supporting operational risk, controls, audits, or regulatory examinations, particularly related to nonresident withholding and information reporting.
- Working knowledge of Forms 1099, 1099-R, and 5498 reporting.
- Experience with FIS Wall Street Concepts (WSC), FIS Global Plus, Salesforce, Jira, PL/SQL, or automation technologies, including robotic process automation (RPA) and firm-approved artificial intelligence tools.
- Experience with tax reporting system enhancements, implementations, or testing.
- Participation in relevant industry organizations or forums, such as SIFMA, focused on tax information reporting and regulatory developments.
The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 per year. This range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. In addition, this position may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, and other compensation programs as applicable. Eligible employees may participate in a 401(k) program with a generous profit-sharing contribution, medical, prescription dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; disability coverage; paid holidays; vacation; and sick time, subject to plan terms and Company policies.
