About the Role

The Associate General Counsel, Litigation is part of the Legal team and reports to our General Counsel. As Associate General Counsel, Litigation, you will be responsible for helping lead and manage Binance.US’s litigation and disputes portfolio, including complex commercial, consumer, regulatory, and other litigation matters as appropriate.

You will serve as a key internal litigation leader, developing case strategy, coordinating matters across multiple external law firms, managing litigation budgets and performance, and ensuring that internal stakeholders receive practical, timely, and risk-adjusted legal advice. You will also manage and develop members of the Legal team and partner closely with Compliance, Finance, Product, Operations, Marketing, People, and other business functions to identify, mitigate, and resolve legal risk.

    Manage a portfolio of litigation, arbitration, pre-litigation disputes, investigations, and other matters across multiple jurisdictions, overseeing matters from initial assessment through resolution.

    Develop litigation strategy in partnership with Legal leadership and direct multiple external counsel firms, establishing clear matter objectives, work plans, budgets, timelines, staffing expectations, and performance standards.

    Serve as the primary in-house point of coordination for assigned matters, ensuring consistent strategy and communication across outside counsel, internal legal specialists, business stakeholders, executives, and other relevant parties.

    Evaluate claims and potential exposure, recommend litigation and settlement strategies, and provide clear, commercially practical advice regarding legal, financial, operational, and reputational risk.

    Oversee key phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery and e-discovery, motion practice, witness and deposition preparation, expert strategy, hearings, trials, arbitrations, settlement negotiations, and appeals.

    Establish effective outside-counsel management practices, including matter budgeting, invoice and spend oversight, alternative fee arrangements where appropriate, staffing efficiency, performance evaluation, and coordination among multiple firms working on related matters.

    Partner cross-functionally with Compliance, Product, Operations, Finance, Marketing, People, IT/Security, and other teams to gather information, preserve evidence, support litigation strategy, and address business practices that may create recurring litigation risk.

    Identify emerging litigation trends and proactively advise Legal leadership and business partners regarding potential exposure, mitigation opportunities, and developments that may affect Binance.US.

    Develop and maintain scalable litigation processes, including matter-management practices, legal holds, case reporting, outside-counsel guidelines, litigation metrics, playbooks, and other tools designed to improve consistency, efficiency, and visibility.

    Manage, coach, and develop Legal team member(s) as needed, providing clear expectations, ongoing feedback, professional development, and effective prioritization of work.

    Support broader Legal department priorities and provide practical legal guidance on high-priority or time-sensitive matters as business needs evolve.

Nice to Have

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

  • At least 6 years of post-law-school practicing legal experience, with substantial experience handling complex litigation and disputes.

  • Meaningful litigation experience at an excellent law firm is required; candidates may currently be practicing in-house.

  • Significant experience managing outside litigation counsel, including demonstrated ability to coordinate strategy and execution across multiple external law firms simultaneously.

  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state civil litigation and arbitrations including discovery, e-discovery, privilege, motion practice, settlement strategy, trials, and other core litigation processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate complex legal and factual issues, assess risk, establish litigation strategy, and provide concise recommendations to senior stakeholders.

  • Experience managing litigation budgets and legal spend, including evaluating outside-counsel staffing, scope, efficiency, and performance.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal issues into practical recommendations for legal and non-legal audiences.

  • Strong judgment, organizational skills, and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-priority matters and competing deadlines.

  • Experience within financial services, fintech, cryptocurrency, technology, or another highly regulated industry is required.

  • Familiarity with consumer disputes, class actions, regulatory litigation, commercial disputes, securities matters, or other disputes relevant to a regulated financial-services business is preferred.

The pay range for this role will vary, and is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skill sets, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change.
