Business Systems Manager
Quick Summary
turning business
Birdbuddy is on a mission to reconnect people with nature through beautifully designed smart bird feeders and companion technology. We combine physical product manufacturing with recurring software revenue from our connected ecosystem, and we run the business on NetSuite: finance and close, inventory and supply chain, order management and fulfillment, and the integrations behind them.
We need an accountable owner who understands what the business needs from that system and can get it built.
As Business Systems Manager, you own the strategy and execution that the company’s ERP system supports company growth and increases efficiency. You understand the top-level business objectives, gather what each function needs, and manage the development and adoption roadmap. You need to understand B2C omnichannel hardware-software business model in the startup-scaleup stage, with emphasis on finance and supply chain.
What you will own
- The mandate. Accountability that NetSuite delivers what the business needs. You gather expectations across every function that touches the system, understand how each one works before deciding what to change and judge honestly whether the system is meeting them.
- Stakeholder management. You are the primary point of contact for the CFO, COO, and other executives on what NetSuite can and should do for their function, translating competing priorities into one backlog.
- The execution. You manage both internal and external resources (the NetSuite Specialist, managed services): turning business requirements into a clear technical backlog and reviewing their work against it.
- The roadmap and backlog. A single prioritized backlog in one tool, with you deciding which projects run and in what order, and holding the line when priorities compete.
- Onboarding the rest of the business. A development and onboarding plan for the functions not yet on the system.
- Vendors, governance, and budget. All vendor and partner relationships, the governance around them, and the budget. You select and manage any managed-services partner and own the build-versus-buy calls.
- Stabilization as part of one roadmap. Getting the current system stable, including through high season. A predictable monthly close is one measure of success, alongside adoption and efficiency across the business.
- Change control. Deciding whether and when a change touching the financial statements or a closed period should happen, pulling in relevant stakeholders, and owning the sign-off and timing.
- Cadence and knowledge. Setting the working rhythm with the Specialist and across functions, and making sure knowledge lives in runbooks rather than in one person's head.
Key Qualifications
- Proven experience as the end-to-end business owner of an ERP system, ideally NetSuite, in a lean startup or scale-up environment without a large team behind you.
- Strong general understanding of how a business runs across finance, supply chain, operations and sales channels. You are able to judge what is actually worth fixing and translate it into requirements someone technical can build.
- Experience in a consumer products, e-commerce or hardware business selling across several channels (own webshop, marketplaces such as Amazon, retail partners), ideally with subscriptions, and carrying a system through a peak season without regression.
- Pragmatic and down to earth: you diagnose before you prescribe, start with questions about how the business works, and can explain the business case for a change, not just the technical fix.
- You have held real authority over vendors and budget, and made the call on what to build versus buy.
- 8+ years of experience, several spent owning or leading a system, program, or team.
- Fluent working English.
Nice to have
- Hands-on NetSuite OneWorld experience, multi-subsidiary and multi-currency (we run Slovenian and US entities).
- A product management background.
