Black & McDonald’s Western Utilities team is growing! If you are committed and collaborative electrical tradesman looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you. The long-term positions will be based on a 40-hour work week (Monday to Friday), with the possibility of additional workdays as required, to fulfill the support of maintaining windfarm assets in Southern Alberta. As a member of the Wind Farm Maintenance crew, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the electrical equipment of the wind turbines.
We are hiring for the following locations in Southern Alberta:
- Medicine Hat, AB
- Lethbridge, AB
- Drumheller, AB
Responsibilities

- →Live energized troubleshooting and voltage verification
- →Routine electrical maintenance activities
- →Electrical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), isolation verification, and restoration
- →Identify and test equipment, electronic devices, and electrical equipment
- →Performing preventive maintenance on electrical components, including regular inspections, cleaning, and replacement of worn parts
- →Climbing turbines and working at heights safely using harnesses, ladders, and lifting equipment in various weather conditions.
- →Read and understand single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and drawings
- →Maintains records of all maintenance activities in accordance with contractual requirements
Requirements

Prior electrical wind maintenance experience would be an asset but is not required. Black and McDonald will be providing the GWO (Global Wind Organization) Basic Safety Training course for all new hires. The course is a four-day program that consists of the following modules;
Working at Heights – 2 days
Manual Handling – 0.5 days
Fire Awareness – 0.5 days
First Aid – 1 day
The training program is mandatory for wind farm employment in North America and is a globally transferable certification. Black and McDonald will provide for future training programs that may be required by our clients and to expand the knowledge base and skill set of our Maintenance Electricians.
- Ability to prioritize work, complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills with a team approach
- Support and work with our client’s Trouble Shooting Technicians
- Ability to comply with the company standard practice as it applies to field assignments
- Willing and able to travel to sites (Black and McDonald provides a company service truck)
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License, Class 5 with clean driving record
- CSTS
- Fall Protection and Working at Heights Tickets
- Red Seal Journeyman Electrician
- Ability and willingness to join Local 424 Union
