The Controls Engineer IV – SCADA Focus is a senior-level role responsible for leading the design, deployment, and optimization of enterprise-scale SCADA systems in industrial automation and material handling environments. This position focuses on system architecture, platform configuration, and integration, while serving as the technical lead on SCADA initiatives and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-availability SCADA system architectures.
  • Establish and maintain standards for tags, security, and visualization.
  • Own documentation and version control of SCADA configurations.
  • Develop and deploy SCADA solutions (Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk View SE, WinCC).
  • Integrate SCADA with PLCs, MES, and enterprise systems.
  • Configure alarms, historian data, user access, and connectivity.
  • Lead FAT/SAT and multi-site commissioning efforts.
  • Mentor junior engineers on SCADA best practices and architecture.
  • Lead internal training and support onboarding efforts.
  • Partner with Controls, Software, Electrical, and IT teams on system integration and security.
  • Work with customers to define interface requirements, user roles, and reporting needs.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (MQTT, edge, cloud visualization).
  • Drive scalable solutions for centralized monitoring and system redundancy.
  • Support digital initiatives including dashboards, KPIs, and remote diagnostics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of SCADA experience in industrial automation or material handling.
  • Strong background in PLC/SCADA integration, networking, and commissioning.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 35%.


Base compensation is $140k-160K DOE

  • Expertise in at least two SCADA platforms (Ignition, AVEVA System Platform, FactoryTalk View SE, WinCC).
  • Experience with Python scripting, SQL, OPC/UA, and tag database structures.
