Job Summary 

The Senior Mechanical Technician (SMT) plays a vital role in maintaining and optimizing the reliability, performance, and safety of refinery and utilities equipment. This position requires advanced mechanical expertise and hands-on experience with rotating equipment, fired equipment, compressors, and associated systems. The SMT will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives with minimal supervision. This role collaborates closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance management to ensure efficient plant operation and equipment availability. The SMT will report directly to the Mechanical Lead. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Perform installation, alignment, repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting of rotating and stationary refinery equipment including pumps, motors, compressors, valves, and piping systems. 

  • Lead or assist in complex mechanical projects such as equipment rebuilds, precision alignments, and system upgrades. 

  • Diagnose mechanical failures through vibration analysis, inspection, and root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions. 

  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and other maintenance team members to plan, schedule, and execute maintenance tasks efficiently. 

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior maintenance personnel. 

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, and work orders in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). 

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to maintenance procedures, reliability, and safety performance. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade school certificate preferred. 

  • 7-10+ years of maintenance or millwright experience in an industrial, refinery, or utilities environment. 

  • Proficiency in the use of precision tools and equipment alignment techniques. 

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals. 

  • Physical demands include carrying 50 pounds, use of stairs to access equipment.   

  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and performing root cause failure analyses. 

  • Proven commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
