Position Summary


The Senior Direct Care Professional (Senior DCP) provides direct support, coaching, and skill development to young people in the Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program. In addition to performing Direct Care Professional responsibilities, the Senior DCP serves as an experienced frontline resource who models effective practice, supports staff, assists with daily program operations, and promotes consistency in the implementation of SIL expectations.

The Senior DCP is expected to demonstrate increased initiative, leadership, judgment, and knowledge of program procedures. This position provides guidance and support to DCPs but does not have formal supervisory authority or assume the full responsibilities of a Team/Shift Lead or Program Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Relevant college coursework or degree in human services or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with adolescents or young adults preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, reliability, professional judgment, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with young people who have experienced trauma, instability, or child welfare involvement.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet BGH vehicle-insurability requirements.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of required BGH training, including Safe Crisis Management.
  • Ability to utilize agency electronic documentation and communication systems.
  • Must meet all applicable BGH, background screening, health screening, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Client Support & Skill Development
 
  • Provide direct supervision, support, coaching, and guidance to SIL clients using trauma-responsive practices.
  • Teach and model independent living skills including household management, cleaning, meal preparation, budgeting, transportation, employment, education, hygiene, appointment management, and community living.
  • Reinforce client goals, program expectations, safety requirements, and appropriate accountability while promoting increasing independence.
  • Support clients with appointments, transportation, community activities, life-skills activities, and other identified needs.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral concerns, conflicts, crises, and emergencies and seek additional support when necessary.

Senior DCP Leadership & Program Support
 
  • Serve as an experienced frontline resource and positive role model for Direct Care Professionals.
  • Assist with orientation, training, and ongoing support of DCPs as assigned.
  • Model appropriate client engagement, professional boundaries, documentation, communication, crisis response, and implementation of SIL procedures.
  • Assist staff with routine problem-solving and provide guidance regarding established program procedures and expectations.
  • Support continuity of program operations by identifying concerns, communicating important information, and assisting with coverage and daily program needs.
  • Participate in the SIL on-call rotation and provide after-hours support in accordance with established procedures, escalating significant concerns to appropriate program leadership.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to DCPs as needed but does not conduct formal supervision, performance evaluations, corrective action, or other management functions.

Safety, Operations & Documentation
 
  • Maintain awareness of client schedules, whereabouts, appointments, employment, education, and other relevant activities.
  • Assist with apartment inspections, safety checks, fire drills, cleanliness expectations, and identification of maintenance or environmental concerns.
  • Follow established procedures for emergencies, incidents, AWOLs, medication concerns, and other significant events.
  • Support clients with health, hygiene, medication, and appointment routines within the employee's training and scope of responsibility.
  • Transport clients in agency vehicles as assigned and follow vehicle procedures.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of client contacts, progress, incidents, activities, and significant concerns.
  • Participate in effective shift-to-shift communication and promptly communicate significant client, safety, staffing, or operational concerns to program leadership.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.

Professional Expectations
 
  • Participate in required meetings, supervision, trainings, and program activities.
  • Maintain required annual training and demonstrate application of training in daily practice.
  • Work collaboratively with DCPs, Team/Shift Leads, case management, clinical staff, and program leadership.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and flexibility necessary to meet the needs of a 24-hour program.
  • Follow BGH policies and procedures and applicable contractual, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the general nature and level of the position.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a standard administrative office environment. S/he will come into contact with BGH clients, staff members, Board members, volunteers and other members of the community. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
