                                           JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Unit Director 
Department: Operations
Reports To: Assistant Regional Director of Operations
Status: Part-Time Non-exempt hourly (20+ hours per week)



The regular schedule for this position consists of four-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, between 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. during the school year. During Summer Camp, shifts will vary Monday through Friday, totaling 30–35 hours per week.

Serving children and teens through Club sites in Southeastern NC, BGCSENC offers safe, inclusive, and enriching environments that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship.


 Job Summary

The Unit Director is a mission-driven leader who manages the daily operations of a designated Unit/Club. This role is responsible for ensuring a comprehensive, outcome-driven program and service delivery, supervising and developing staff, managing the Unit/Club’s budget, strengthening community relationships, and supporting membership recruitment. This role will lead with integrity, inspire a positive team culture, and help advance the organization’s impact on youth and families.

Major Responsibilities



  1. 1. Leadership
  • Oversee daily operations
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment through facility management.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee Unit financial resources and assist in the development and implementation of the Unit’s annual budget
  • Supervise all staff; Conduct regular staff meetings with site staff, offering development and training opportunities.
  • Maintains regular communication with members and families to provide behavioral support, guidance, and counsel.
  1. Club Programming
  • Establish Unit/Club programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
  • In partnership with the Program Coordinator, maintain and develop Unit programs to ensure that all club members have opportunities to participate in five (5) core areas.
  • Ensure programming supports BGCA priority outcomes by working with key staff to create curriculum and learning opportunities.



  1. Membership Requirements
  • Ensures compliance with BGCA membership standards to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  1. Resource Management
  • Manage Unit financial resources. Control expenditure against the budget.
  1. Partnership & Public Relations Development
  • Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for club programs, services and activities
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other community organizations, members and families

 

  Additional Responsibilities 

  • Communicate with families.
  • Work with staff on special events.
  • Ensure the completion of required reports.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

 

Relationships

Internal: Maintains close contact with club staff (professional and volunteer) to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

 

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in youth development
  • Planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of youth.
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members' discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with or within the Boys & Girls Clubs movement.
  • Familiarity with the Southeastern North Carolina community and its demographics.

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. No personal protective equipment is required. Travel to club sites is required, as well as some outdoor activity.
