IT Internship - Irving, TX (Summer 2027)

The AI/ML Intern will support the development, testing, and deployment of AI-driven solutions that improve productivity, automate business processes, and enhance decision-making across Builders FirstSource. The intern will contribute to strategic AI initiatives, including Trend Genie, Online Genie, Natural Language Query (NLQ) solutions, intelligent search capabilities, knowledge assistants, and other enterprise AI use cases leveraging emerging technologies.   Responsibilities may include gathering and organizing data, supporting AI and machine learning projects, participating in research and prototyping activities, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and assisting with project analysis and reporting.   PURPOSE Gain industry and organizational knowledge through daily business interactions and job assignments. Work is performed under direct supervision while supporting AI and machine learning initiatives that drive innovation and business value across Builders FirstSource.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist with various projects in support of the Information Technology department and enterprise AI initiatives. Gather, organize, and analyze data to support AI, machine learning, and departmental projects. Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project discussions. Assist with research, testing, and prototyping activities related to AI-driven solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals and business objectives.   MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Must be actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field. Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preferred junior or senior standing; other class levels will be considered.   PREFERRED MAJORS/DEGREES Computer Science Data Science Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Software Engineering Master's degree candidates in Software Engineering or Computer Science preferred   COMPETENCIES Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and cross-functional teams Comfortable collaborating and communicating with others in a professional environment Proficient with Microsoft Office and Outlook Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities   PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Software Engineering Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Basic programming knowledge   WHY THIS INTERNSHIP?
