Position Summary

The position serves as the first point of contact for donors, creating a positive and welcoming donation experience by demonstrating kindness, appreciation, and professionalism. The Donation Attendant supports store operations by assisting donors at the drop-off area, organizing and sorting incoming merchandise, and maintaining an orderly and efficient donation area. The ability to assist staff, manage incoming items, and maintain a clean and organized workspace is essential to the success of this role.



Position Details

  • Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt 
  • Schedule: Daytime hours, including some weekend days
  • Work Location: On-site at the Common Threads Fairview Park store location, 22049 Lorain Rd.; Fairview Park, OH
  • Reports to: Store Manager



Primary Job Duties

  • Assist donors at the drop-off area, including helping with the donation process and providing donation receipts
  • Sort donated items and distribute them to the appropriate departments
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the donation, store, and warehouse areas, including removal of trash and recycling
  • Move furniture and inventory as needed, including assisting customers with furniture loading
  • Follow safety procedures when handling donations, furniture, and equipment, including proper lifting techniques.
  • Adhere to store policies regarding acceptable donations 
  • Answer phones and record donation pickup requests in Slack
  • Assist with rag-out and recycling of store items
  • Perform opening and closing procedures when scheduled
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Ability to safely lift, move, twist, push, pull, and load furniture and donated items (up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to stand on feet and work consistently for several hours without sitting.
  • Ability to climb a ladder
  • Ability to assist with cleaning and maintaining organized, safe work areas
  • Ability to work a set schedule that includes one weekend day
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to adjust hours as needed to support operational needs, with advance notice whenever possible
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Authorized to work in the United States for any employer

Work areas may periodically be dusty due to indoor/outdoor traffic, donated items, and cleaning. Brief, intermittent exposure to outdoor weather conditions is expected while assisting donors.


Preferred Skills (not required)

  • Previous customer service, retail, warehouse, or donation‑center experience 
  • Comfortable performing light maintenance and basic handyman tasks, including climbing a ladder to change light bulbs
  • Ability to occasionally drive a box truck, and insurable by the company


Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting at $12/hr, commensurate with experience
  • Retirement plan with employer match up to 3%
  • PTO accrual begins on start date
