Senior Automation Engineer (n8n Embed)

We’re hiring a Senior Embedded Automation Platform Engineer / Workflow Platform Lead to embed n8n into our SaaS product as a first class, white labeled workflow builder experience. This is a senior, hands on platform role at the intersection of backend engineering, SaaS multitenancy, identity/security, and production operations. 

You’ll own the technical design and execution of embedding n8n into a multitenant SaaS environment, coordinate work across backend/frontend/DevOps engineers, and ensure we ship an embedded automation experience that is secure, scalable, reliable, and supportable. You will also help shape how customers build workflows that orchestrate actions across external systems and our own APIs—while keeping the UX consistent with the product. 

What you’ll do (Responsibilities) 

1) Own the embedded automation architecture 

• Design the end-to-end architecture for embedding n8n into our product (routing, tenancy boundaries, workflow lifecycle, upgrade strategy, and operational model). 

• Define the “automation platform” integration strategy: workflow templates, provisioning, versioning, rollout, backward compatibility, and governance. 

• Create technical standards and guardrails so teams can extend the automation layer safely over time. 

2) Multitenancy, identity, and access control 

• Implement robust multitenant isolation so that each organization’s workflows, credentials, and execution data are separated, auditable, and compliant. 

• Align embedded workflow access with our identity model and implement role-based access control (e.g., admins/builders/viewers). 

• Design and enforce boundaries between product sessions and embedded automation sessions. 

3) OAuth, credentials, and security-by-design 

• Design and implement secure credential management for embedded workflows, including OAuth app credential strategy and tenant-safe secret handling. 

• Build secure credential loading/brokering patterns and establish policies for secret rotation, token storage, and offboarding. 

• Harden webhook exposure: authentication/verification, request validation, rate limiting, replay protection, and audit logging. 

• Lead threat modeling and security reviews for the embedded automation surface. 

4) Operate n8n as a production platform inside a SaaS 

• Own runtime reliability: deployment patterns, monitoring/alerting, backups, upgrades, incident response playbooks, and performance tuning. 

• Define scaling strategy (worker pools, queueing, concurrency limits) appropriate for customer-facing automation and burst traffic. 

• Ensure operational maturity: dashboards, runbooks, on-call readiness, and measurable SLAs/SLOs. 

5) Cross-functional technical leadership 

• Coordinate delivery across backend engineers, frontend engineers, and DevOps/SRE—driving design reviews, breaking work into milestones, and unblocking execution. 

• Provide strong written communication: architecture docs, ADRs, implementation plans, and operational runbooks. 

• Mentor engineers working on automation features and raise standards around platform ownership and secure-by-default engineering. 

What you’ll bring (Qualifications) 

Required 

• 7+ years professional engineering experience with strong depth in backend/platform engineering (Node.js/TypeScript preferred). 
• Direct experience with embedded automation/workflow platforms (n8n as a preferred platform with min 3 years experience, other platforms as nice to have: Temporal, Camunda, Airflow, etc.). 
  

• Proven experience building and operating SaaS multitenant systems (tenant isolation, RBAC, auditability, lifecycle management). 

• Strong understanding of OAuth2/OIDC, authentication flows, secret management, and secure credential brokering patterns. 

• Experience integrating and operating third party platforms inside a SaaS product, including SSO alignment, logging/monitoring, and scaling. 

• Strong systems mindset: reliability engineering, observability, incident response, upgrade strategies, and performance tuning. 

• Comfortable leading across teams without becoming a bottleneck: you drive clarity, create momentum, and ship. 

Nice to have 

• Experience with enterprise identity providers (Keycloak/Okta/Auth0), SAML/OIDC SSO, or multi-IdP setups. 

• Experience building embedded product surfaces (iframes, embedded editors) with secure session boundaries. 

• Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, and integration ecosystems. 

• Familiarity with compliance-driven environments (SOC2, GDPR) and audit logging requirements.
