Position Summary:

Always there. Anywhere. That’s us! We’ve got a lot of energy at ATCO, focused on creating prosperity for generations to come. Embrace challenge and growth because your career journey at ATCO has the potential to be full of new experiences, inspiring challenges, and growth without boundaries.

The Yellowhead Pipeline Project is one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in ATCO’s history and represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to work with significant organizational, industry, and provincial impact. The project will play an important role in supporting Alberta’s future economic growth and energy needs, creating approximately 2,000 direct jobs and supporting an additional 12,000 jobs during construction. Once operational, downstream investments enabled by the project are expected to support roughly 20,000 jobs annually and contribute an estimated $3.9 billion to Alberta’s GDP each year. This is a high-profile, fast-moving, and collaborative environment where HR has a meaningful role in helping the project scale effectively, support leaders and employees, and contribute to a positive workforce experience throughout the project lifecycle.

As part of the dedicated HR support model for the Yellowhead Pipeline Project, the HR Advisor plays an important role in enabling a large, complex, and evolving project workforce. The role supports the effective delivery of HR services across the project lifecycle, helping leaders and employees navigate people-related processes, maintain strong coordination across teams, and support a consistent, positive workforce experience.

The successful candidate is organized, responsive, detail-oriented, and service-focused. Living the spirit of the ATCO Values, they bring integrity and a caring, collaborative, and practical approach to HR support. They are agile and comfortable working safely in a fast-paced project environment where priorities may shift, and where accuracy, follow-through, and sound judgment are essential. This is an opportunity to provide meaningful HR support to a project that matters to ATCO, its customers, and the province.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day HR support to project leaders and employees, including inquiries, process guidance, documentation, and issue escalation.
  • Support compliance with internal policies, employment standards, HR procedures, and related programs.
  • Maintain workforce trackers, reporting data, project documentation, and HR system records, resolving discrepancies with leaders, HR Operations, and stakeholders.

  • Coordinate postings, expressions of interest, transfers, promotions, temporary assignments, position and reporting changes, compensation updates, leaves, terminations, and related documentation.
  • Support interview logistics, candidate coordination, onboarding planning, and end-of-assignment activities.
  • Serve as an initial contact for routine employee and leader inquiries, escalating complex, sensitive, or labour relations matters as appropriate.
  • Support information gathering, documentation, timelines, records, and follow-up actions related to employee, workplace, policy, or compliance matters.
  • Maintain confidentiality, sound judgment, and accurate HR records aligned with company standards.
  • Build effective relationships with project leaders, employees, HR colleagues, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support process improvements that reduce duplication, strengthen documentation, and align with the Energy Systems approach where appropriate.
  • Ensure continuity and consistency through HR project meetings, workforce planning discussions, issue reviews, action tracking, and emerging project needs.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources required.
  • Progress toward a Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation is considered an asset.
  • 2–4 years’ experience providing HR advisory, coordinator, or generalist support, preferably in a large-scale project, construction, energy, utility, industrial, or operational environment.
  • Experience with recruitment, onboarding, transfers, HR documentation, reporting, HRIS, applicant tracking systems, and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills with leaders, employees, HR colleagues, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of HR processes, employee lifecycle activities, onboarding, documentation, HR systems, and employee records.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, follow-ups, and confidential information.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, written and verbal communication, and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to recognize when matters require escalation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, respectful workplace practices, inclusion, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.

This role works closely with:

  • May involve supporting urgent HR, onboarding, staffing, or documentation needs during peak project activity.
