The Asset Strategy & Analytics team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to lead the strategic asset planning activities for various distribution electrical assets. Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, they will be accountable for leading asset lifecycle strategies and investment planning for various distribution asset classes. The successful candidate will collaborate with key stakeholders such as Engineering, Operations, and Regulatory to support risk-informed, value-based asset decisions that optimize system reliability, safety, and cost. The ideal candidate will be someone with a strong asset management foundation, electrical utility experience, and excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

• Develop broad-level asset management strategies and best practices for multiple distribution assets to support long-term system performance, reliability, and risk mitigation.

• Lead the development of asset lifecycle strategies and renewal plans for specific distribution asset classes by analyzing risk and operational factors, including asset condition, system criticality, reliability performance, operational constraints, and financial considerations.

• Create, review, and approve technical scopes and business justification documentation for capital maintenance projects, which may include asset replacement, refurbishment and new technology implementation.

• Identify and develop new capital maintenance and operations and maintenance programs to mitigate emerging and increasing risks to the distribution electrical system, including risks associated with aging infrastructure, extreme weather events, wildfire, and evolving customer and system requirements.

• Develop and implement prioritization frameworks for asset-related decision-making using a risk-and value-based approach.

• Support regulatory applications and filings through the development of business cases, regulatory documentation, information request responses, evidence development, and witness preparation activities.

• Facilitate working sessions with other technical and non-technical departments to ensure alignment between teams and the development of asset strategies and processes.

• Coach, mentor, and supervise engineers and engineers-in-training.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Civil.

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA.

• 8–10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, preferably within an electrical utility environment.

• Knowledge of electrical utility systems including the various components/assets.

• A demonstrated understanding of good asset management principles.

• Experience with asset management systems such as IBM Maximo.

• Excellent business writing, communication, and presentation skills.

• Strong leadership skills, and capable of managing a diverse group of stakeholders (technical and non-technical) and leading the team towards a consensus/resolution on complex decisions, and strategy and process development and improvements.

• Knowledge of ISO 55000 is an asset.

• Experience using analytical and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL, DAX, Python) to support asset management decision-making is considered an asset.
