Every day, people across California turn to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, California (CAIR-CA) when they face discrimination, threats to their civil rights, or challenges to their freedom to practice their faith. As the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in California, we protect constitutional rights, advance justice, and empower communities through legal advocacy, public policy, civic engagement, and education.

Since 1994, that work has been made possible by a dedicated team committed to serving individuals, families, and communities across California. Behind every case, campaign, and initiative are people working together to create meaningful change.

Whether you serve clients directly or support our mission behind the scenes, your work helps build a more just, inclusive, and equitable California.

  • Two years of relevant professional experience in community programs, community outreach, research and project coordination, or a related field
  • Strong commitment to CAIR's mission and the empowerment of American Muslim communities

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects, meet deadlines, and track progress
  • Comfort conducting outreach to individuals with whom there is no existing relationship
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize large amounts of information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and online research tools
  • Ability to exercise discretion when handling personal and confidential information
  • Previous participation in a CAIR-SFBA youth leadership program, internship, law clerkship, or volunteer initiative

  • Familiarity with the Bay Area's American Muslim communities

CAIR-SFBA is seeking an organized, resourceful, and outgoing Alumni & Leadership Network Coordinator to help reconnect with former program participants, learn about their professional and personal journeys, and build a lasting network of American Muslim leaders. Through outreach, relationship-building, and information gathering, you will help strengthen CAIR-SFBA's connections with its alumni community and create opportunities for continued engagement and leadership development.

This is a new position launching as a six-month pilot, with the possibility of extension based on program outcomes and organizational needs. The ideal candidate enjoys connecting with people, is persistent and resourceful in locating and tracking information, and is excited by the opportunity to build something new.

  • Research and compile historical participant records from CAIR-SFBA's youth leadership, internship, and law clerk programs

  • Establish procedures to ensure future program graduates are consistently added to the network
  • Develop and implement a personalized outreach strategy to reconnect with former participants
  • Conduct individual outreach through email, phone, LinkedIn, and other appropriate channels
  • Learn about alumni's educational and professional journeys, interests, and current community involvement
  • Identify opportunities for alumni to reconnect with CAIR-SFBA and one another
  • Recruit alumni volunteers to help strengthen and expand the network
  • Develop opportunities for alumni to serve as mentors, speakers, volunteers, advocates, and community leaders
  • Connect alumni with current program participants and other alumni who share professional or personal interests
  • Help establish a small alumni advisory group to inform future engagement efforts
  • Pilot low-cost, meaningful opportunities for alumni engagement, including virtual conversations, networking gatherings, and mentoring activities
  • Develop a sustainable alumni communications strategy
  • Identify alumni whose experiences demonstrate the long-term impact of CAIR-SFBA's programs
  • Interview alumni and develop written profiles highlighting their personal and professional journeys
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to produce alumni spotlights, social media content, and short videos
  • Collect alumni testimonials and stories for organizational communications, fundraising, and impact reporting, with appropriate consent
  • Develop and maintain a six-month work plan with measurable milestones
  • Track alumni identification, outreach, responses, engagement, and contributions
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Executive Director
  • Evaluate outreach methods and adjust strategies based on results
  • Prepare a final report assessing the pilot's outcomes and recommending a sustainable, long-term alumni engagement strategy

The Coordinator will work toward the following initial targets, which may be adjusted based on the availability of historical records:

  • Identify and document at least 400 former program participants, interns, and law clerks
  • Locate verified contact information for at least 200 alumni
  • Reconnect with at least 75 alumni through two-way communication
  • Recruit at least 40 alumni interested in ongoing engagement
  • Facilitate at least 20 meaningful alumni contributions, including mentoring, speaking, volunteering, or other activities
  • Develop at least 10 alumni profiles or stories
  • Establish a small alumni advisory group
