We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with a focus on corporate tax (Forms 1120) and partnership tax (Forms 1065) to join our public accounting firm. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of corporate tax compliance, consulting, and tax research, with the ability to respond to IRS and state notices. This role involves providing strategic tax consulting, making tax adjustments in Engagement software, and handling tax provisions. Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review Forms 1120 (corporate tax returns) and Forms 1065 (partnership tax returns) for a diverse range of clients.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filings in compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.
  • Handle complex multi-state tax filings, focusing on SALT (State and Local Tax) issues and nexus compliance.
  • Review tax adjustments and ensure proper calculations using Engagement software.
  • Provide payroll-related tax consulting, advising clients on payroll tax compliance, including federal and state withholding, FICA, and unemployment tax.
  • Assist clients in identifying SALT/Nexus risks, advising on proper state tax registration and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct tax research and draft memoranda on various tax issues, including general tax matters, state tax laws, and federal tax changes.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop tax-saving strategies and provide proactive advice on tax planning opportunities.
  • Manage client communications with federal and state tax authorities, responding to IRS and state notices regarding tax discrepancies or audits.
  • Prepare and submit accurate documentation to resolve tax issues and disputes in a timely manner.
  • Act as the primary contact for client inquiries related to tax notices and audits, ensuring smooth resolution of tax matters.
  • Prepare and review tax provisions for corporate clients, ensuring compliance with ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes).
  • Calculate and adjust quarterly and annual tax provisions in coordination with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax legislation changes and ensure that tax provisions are compliant with the latest rules.
  • Review and adjust tax calculations for clients, ensuring accurate tax reporting and financial statement disclosures.
  • Work with accounting and audit teams to reconcile tax differences and ensure proper tax adjustments are recorded in financial statements.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s in Taxation or JD/LLM in Taxation is a plus).
  • 5+ years of corporate and partnership tax experience with a focus on Forms 1120 and 1065 in a public accounting or corporate tax environment.
  • Experience with payroll tax consulting, SALT/Nexus issues, and IRS/state notice resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of tax provisions and experience with ASC 740.
  • Proficiency with Engagement software for tax adjustments and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong research, writing, and problem-solving abilities with an eye for detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain complex tax issues to clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
