Director of Finance

Camelback Ventures transforms the landscape of entrepreneurship by investing in ventures and leaders who have been systematically excluded from capital and opportunity. Our Fellows have collectively raised more than $400M and are creating meaningful impact in communities across the country.

Camelback Ventures is looking for an experienced nonprofit finance leader to lead the financial strategy, management, and systems that support our mission and long-term sustainability.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can move comfortably between strategy and execution. You will advise the CEO, Leadership Team, and Board while also staying close to the work of budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, accounting, grants, compliance, and financial operations.

You will also lead and strengthen the people, systems, and external partnerships that keep Camelback financially strong and prepared for growth.

• Financial Planning & Analysis: Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, scenario modeling, budget-to-actual analysis, and financial reporting. Provide Leadership Team, Finance Committee, and Board with clear financial insights to support decision-making.

• Accounting & Compliance: Oversee accounting operations, including monthly close, reconciliations, payroll, oversight of externally managed investment portfolio, functional expense allocations, SAFE agreements, fiscal sponsorship program, audit management, Form 990, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. 

• Grants & Revenue Management: Lead the financial management of grants, including budgets, spending, compliance, and funder reporting. Oversee revenue accounting and reporting, including restricted and conditional contributions, net asset releases, and earned revenue.

• Finance Team, Systems & Partnerships: Lead and support the finance team; strengthen financial systems, policies, workflows, controls, and documentation; and manage key external relationships including banking, audit, tax, investment advisors, and other finance partners.

Compensation: $130,000–$150,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Location: Fully remote within the United States

Travel: Approximately 15–20% for team retreats, meetings, and other organizational events

Schedule: Typical working hours are 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Central Time

You are an experienced nonprofit finance leader who combines strong technical accounting depth with strategic judgement and hands-on execution. You communicate complex financial information clearly,  build practical systems, and are comfortable in a small organization where senior leaders stay close to the work.

• At least 4 years of hands-on experience in a nonprofit financial leadership role at the Controller level or above. 

• Strong hands-on nonprofit accounting and finance experience, including financial reporting, restricted and conditional contributions, earned revenue, grants management, functional expense allocations, audit management, Form 990, internal controls and compliance.

• Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and financial analysis. 

• Working knowledge of benefits-related finance and familiarity with HR and people-operations compliance.

• Experience advising executive leadership and communicating financial information to Boards and non-finance audiences

• Experience supervising staff and managing external finance and professional-service partners

• Strong systems and process-management skills, with the ability to improve financial operations without creating unnecessary complexity

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related field

We would be excited to see experience overseeing externally managed investment portfolios and working with investment advisors, SAFE agreements or other direct investments, fiscal sponsorship programs, organizational growth or change, and remote teams. A CPA or MBA is also a plus.

You do not need to bring experience in every one of these areas. We are looking first for a strong nonprofit finance leader with deep technical accounting knowledge and hands-on experience, along with the foundation and judgment to learn and oversee the parts of Camelback's financial model that may be new to you.

Success means Camelback has accurate, timely financial reporting and forecasting, strong accounting and compliance practices, and clear financial information that supports sound decision-making. The Finance team has clear priorities, effective systems, and the structure and support needed to operate efficiently and reliably.
