Mechatronics Engineer
Quick Summary
The Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, and support of electromechanical, automated, and robotic systems used in new and existing products.
The Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, and support of electromechanical, automated, and robotic systems used in new and existing products. This role works across disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and software, to deliver robust, production-ready solutions from concept through field deployment.
The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, develop designs, and validate performance through structured testing and commissioning activities. Responsibilities include designing mechanical systems, implementing control systems, integrating hardware and software components, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. The position requires hands-on involvement in prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, field support and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Additionally, the engineer provides ongoing technical support to production and field-service teams, resolving issues and driving corrective actions to ensure successful product operation in real-world environments.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Design and develop integrated electromechanical systems, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and software components
- Define system architectures, select components, and ensure proper integration of sensors, actuators, controls, and embedded systems
- Create mechanical design and drawings and system documentation to support development and manufacturing.
- Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Develop, program, and debug control systems including robots, PLCs, and HMIs
- Integrate industrial hardware platforms, networks, and communication protocols into complete systems
- Configure and validate I/O devices, motion systems, and control logic for machine operation
- Support system-level integration across mechanical, electrical, and software domains
- Develop and execute test plans for prototypes, subsystems, and full systems to verify performance and compliance
- Support prototype builds, system bring-up, and validation activities in lab and production environments
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), field commissioning, and system startup
- Document results, identify issues, and drive corrective actions to closure
- Diagnose and resolve issues in electromechanical systems during development, production, and field operation
- Provide technical support to manufacturing, service, and customer teams
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Support ongoing product maintenance, upgrades, and sustaining engineering activities
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver product solutions
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments (e.g., DFMEA), and project execution processes
- Drive improvements in system performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost
- Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and documentation processes
Requirements
~2 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Robotics Engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited program
- 5+ years of experience in design, development, and integration of electromechanical or automated systems in industrial environments
- Experience with industrial control systems (B&R Industrial Automation, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley) including PLC programming, HMI development, and system integration
- Proficiency in programming and software development including structured text and ladder logic. Professional experience with C/C++ and Python is a plus.
- Hands-on experience in system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automated equipment in production environments
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Experience with CAD tools (Solidworks, AutoCAD or equivalent) for electrical or mechanical design documentation
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills applied to complex electromechanical systems with the ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, manufacturing, and service team
- Ability to work collaboratively and execute tasks autonomously with transparency and integrity, incorporating multiple sources of input and aligning with consensus direction.
- Excellent English language communication (oral, written, and listening) and interpersonal skills.
