About the role


Are you a qualified Financial Mentor?


Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is seeking a seasoned Financial Mentor to deliver CAPs Debt Help service to individuals and whānau experiencing money chaos across Aotearoa.


There is never a dull day in this collaborative and rewarding role. You will work alongside coaches and clients to provide practical, client-centred support, helping people navigate financial difficulty and move toward long-term stability and restoration.


Reporting to the Financial Mentor Manager, you will guide the client journey, providing support and solutions in line with Financial Mentoring best practice and CAP frameworks.


In this role, you bring hope and resilience to those facing financial hardship. It is a meaningful opportunity to be part of a dedicated team making a tangible difference in the lives of others every day.


Key areas of responsibility include:


  • Support clients throughout their journey with CAP
  • Identify client needs and provide tailored support to help achieve long-term financial wellbeing  
  • Collaborate effectively within CAP’s Team of 3 model (Financial Mentor, Coach, and Client)
  • Manage a caseload of clients
  • Proactively engage in ongoing professional development, ensuring skills and practice remain aligned with Financial Mentor standards and expectations 
  • Strong experience balancing both strategic and operational priorities and requirements


About you

You are an experienced Financial Mentor, who challenges yourself and others. You don’t opt to take a path of least resistance. Instead, you leverage your skills and expertise to do what is right for the kaupapa and the people you’re serving.


You are ready to undertake a journey – not only committed to your own professional and person0al transformation, but you are deeply invested in enabling transformation in others.


You’ll also bring relevant experience for the role:


  • 2+ years of experience as a Financial Mentor
  • Familiarity with financial institutions, systems and practices in Aotearoa
  • Familiarity with wellbeing, social work or other relevant sectors and services
  • Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Strong skills in working collaboratively to maximise service delivery effectiveness and client experience outcomes
  • A strong growth, developmental and learning mindset, and mode of practice
  • Proven strong numeracy and literacy skills as they relate to Financial Mentoring
  • Strong experience balancing both strategic and operational priorities and requirements
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to balance empathy, compassion, professionalism and best practice, and to lead others to do the same
