A hospital in Panama City is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its Medical-Surgical unit. This facility provides a full spectrum of services, including advanced cardiac care, certified women's services, stroke care certification, orthopedic and robotic surgery programs, and the region's only Pediatric ER, Level III NICU, and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Position Overview
The Med-Surg RN works within a collaborative interdisciplinary care team to provide safe, high-quality care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. This role requires strong assessment skills, timely clinical decision-making, and the ability to respond effectively to changes in patient condition throughout each shift.
A strong emphasis is placed on patient education, with the RN helping patients and families understand diagnoses, treatments, medications, side effects, and discharge plans in clear, accessible language.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient assessments at admission and throughout each shift
Identify and communicate changes in patient condition promptly to the care team
Administer medications and monitor for therapeutic response and adverse effects
Carry out provider-ordered treatments, procedures, and monitoring
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record
Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnoses and care plans
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care
Anticipate patient needs and respond proactively in a fast-paced environment
Support safe, evidence-based nursing practice standards
Qualifications
Associate Degree or Nursing Diploma required
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
Acute care RN experience required within the last 3–5 years (non–Med-Surg acute care experience accepted)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire
Current Florida RN license or approved multistate RN license required
Compact license holders must obtain Florida licensure within 60 days of relocation
Strong clinical judgment, communication, and assessment skills
Schedule
Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (rotating weekends)
Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (rotating weekends)
Night shift differential: $4/hour
No weekend differential
