Mechanical Engineer, Associate

• →Work with and learn from other engineers and designer/drafters to design, develop, analyze, and support the fabrication of pressurized mechanical systems for hydraulics, pneumatics, and seawater, for underwater launchers
• →Support the development of Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with the use of free body diagrams, stress calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in ANSYS to prove design meets certain requirements
• →Support designer/drafter’s by creating 3D CAD parts, assemblies, and 2D drawings in SolidWorks
• →Select design materials based on stress calculations as well as commercial and/or military specifications.
• →Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings and technical data packages (TDPs).
• →Interface with customers and government sponsors.
• →Support possible testing of designs onboard submarines and in test facilities with some foreign travel possible.
• →Conduct research of submarine construction drawings using the Advanced Technical Information Support (ATIS) System.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, or structural engineering.
• Ability to maintain a DoW Secret Clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship Required for the purposes of obtaining/holding a U.S. security clearance
• Physically capable to conduct ship checks on United States Nuclear Submarines:
• Be comfortable in relatively confined spaces.
• Capable of climbing vertical ladders (20’ – 25’) within the submarine.
• At least three (2) years academic experience doing stress analysis with hand calculations
• At least one (1) years academic experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran, COMSOL, or SolidWorks Simulation
• Professional experience with Microsoft Office

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $60,000.00/Yr. - USD $80,000/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
