Consilio's Strategy & Transformation team works directly with the executive leadership team on the questions that shape the business: where to grow, what to build, partner or buy, and how to execute. Analysts own the analysis and the storyline behind those decisions across our global business lines and emerging businesses.
This is a consulting-standard role inside a corporate. We expect structured thinking, exact numbers and executive-ready slides, delivered with minimal rework.
This role is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Break ambiguous business questions into MECE issue trees and hypothesis-driven workplans before analysis starts.
- Size markets top-down and bottom-up, triangulate the answer, and make every assumption explicit and defensible.
- Run competitive benchmarking, adjacency assessments, market-entry and build/partner/buy analyses.
- Reason from first principles: rebuild economics from their drivers rather than relying on headline benchmarks.
- Build clean, auditable Excel models with inputs, calculations and outputs separated, scenario and sensitivity toggles, and error checks.
- Model unit economics, business cases and investment returns; align assumptions with Finance.
- Write the storyline before building slides: SCQA framing, Pyramid Principle, and a ghost deck agreed with the Director.
- Write action titles that state the "so what"; one message per slide; every chart labelled and sourced.
- Own production end to end to a board-ready standard: template discipline, consistent formatting, and numbers that tie across model, slides and narrative.
- Prepare materials for EXCO, SteerCo and board discussions.
- Translate recommendations into workplans, KPIs and milestone tracking with the programme team.
Requirements
~1 min read- 2 to 4 years in management consulting (strategy house, Big Four strategy, or boutique) or a structured strategy / corporate development team led by ex-consultants.
- Working fluency in MECE, issue trees, hypothesis-driven problem solving, Pyramid Principle / SCQA and first-principles reasoning, with examples of applying them.
- Expert PowerPoint: you can take a blank template to a clean, consistent 10-slide deck without a production team. think-cell or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Advanced Excel modelling, including scenario analysis and sensitivity tables.
- A high bar for accuracy: you check your own work before it reaches anyone else.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Mathematics or similar, with a strong academic record.
Nice to have:
- Honours or master's degree, MBA, or equivalent.
- Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
How we assess
- Initial conversation; a timed take-home case (research, market sizing, storyline and a short deck); a case interview where you present your deck and complete a live structuring exercise; final conversation with the Director.
We listen for the “why,” clearly define success, maintain accountability, and go the extra distance to create moments that matter.
We treat everyone with respect, welcome diverse views, and partner across geographies, generations, and teams, rallying around final decisions.
We are always curious. We challenge the status quo, experiment to fail forward, and build for the future.
We focus on what matters. We work with passion and persistence, think like an owner, and deliver results we’re proud of.
