Nurse Manager I

In accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the EVMS Medical Group and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Hofheimer Hall (HH) Generalist Nurse Manager functions under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in collaboration with the Generalist Division Director, HH Generalist Practice Manager, and Department Administrator to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Generalist Obstetrics and Gynecology practice. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality, patient-centered care while overseeing clinical workflows, staffing, and regulatory compliance.

This position provides direct leadership and supervision to the clinical team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Nurse Manager partners with providers and administrative leadership to optimize clinical operations, support quality improvement initiatives, enhance the patient experience, and ensure compliance with organizational policies and evidence-based clinical practices. The incumbent also oversees staff recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and professional development to maintain a highly engaged and effective clinical team. Provides direct patient care, as needed, to support clinical operations, ensure seamless clinic workflow, and maintain continuity of high quality patient care.

Travel will be required to all office locations and throughout all divisions to meet the department’s demands.

Clinical Leadership and Operations (35%)

• →Provides clinical leadership and operational oversight for the HH Generalist Obstetrics and Gynecology practice in collaboration with the HH Generalist Practice Manager and Generalist Division Director.
• →Oversees daily clinical operations, ensuring efficient workflows, appropriate staffing, and delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
• →Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical workflows, processes, and protocols to improve operational efficiency, patient access, and the overall patient experience.
• →Ensures smooth clinic flow across all clinical areas and proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement.
• →Partners with providers and administrative leadership to support departmental goals, quality initiatives, and organizational priorities.

Clinical Staff Management, Leadership & Development (35%)

• →Provides direct supervision and leadership for HH Generalist clinical staff, including RNs, LPNs, and Medical Assistants.
• →Manages clinical staff scheduling, assignments, and resource allocation to maintain appropriate staffing levels and support operational needs.
• →Leads recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, competency validation, ongoing education, coaching, and professional development of clinical team members.
• →Conducts performance evaluations and addresses performance concerns in collaboration with the HH Generalist Practice Manager,  Division Director and Human Resources.
• →Promotes a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and exceptional customer service.

Quality, Patient Safety & Regulatory Compliance (15%)

• →Supports EVMS Medical Group quality standards and patient safety initiatives related to clinical operations and direct patient care.
• →Implements and monitors clinical practices to ensure compliance with organizational policies, evidence-based standards, OSHA, CLIA, infection prevention requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
• →Ensures appropriate clinical documentation practices and monitors electronic health record documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with medical record standards.
• →Maintains patient confidentiality and ensures adherence to HIPAA and all EVMS/EVMS Medical Group privacy policies.
• →Supports emergency response processes and assists providers with patient care needs as appropriate.

Resource Management & Clinical Support (15%)

• →Maintains appropriate levels of medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical supplies and ensures clinical areas are safe, organized, and prepared for patient care.
• →Provides direct patient care support as needed, including patient triage, medication education, assisting providers with examinations and procedures, and addressing patient care concerns.
• →Maintains professional competency through required training, continuing education, meetings, and organizational initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

• Licensed Virginia Register Nurse (RN) (or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with equivalent education and/or experience) is required.
• Three (3) years of supervisor/charge nurse experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Progressively more responsible positions in group practice management, in a large specialty group practice, strongly preferred.
• BSN preferred.
