ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Beef Genetic Nucleus Intern to support the elite beef genetics program initiatives for our NuEra Genetics by coordinating and performing daily on-farm activities. The position is located at our facility in Pardeeville, WI, where ABS Global differentiates and tailors elite beef genetics; driving profitability by maximizing beef productivity, efficiency, and sustainability. The current NuEra T14 line has been designed and developed to focus on improving terminal trait profitability by maximizing beef production for dairy cows. It is also an excellent option for commercial beef producers interested in maximizing end-product value in all or part of their herds. The Beef Genetic Nucleus Intern has primary accountability for maintaining defined welfare, biosecurity, and hygiene practices for all ABS cattle on site, supporting reproductive management of ABS-owned females, and overseeing bull performance testing. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in cattle handling, knowledge of cattle reproduction, and strong computer skills.

This is a 40 hour/week paid internship. Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm – no weekends required.

The hourly compensation range for this position is ($17 - $20) USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

  • Maintain defined welfare, biosecurity, and hygiene practices for all ABS cattle on site.
  • Support reproductive management of ABS-owned females, including estrus synchronization and heat detection, chute side assistance of in-vitro and in-vivo procedures, coordination of embryo transfers, and fixed time AI synchronization and breeding.
  • Assist in oversight of Bull Performance Testing, including processing and data collection activities, maintenance, and daily observation of individual animal feed intake systems.
  • Support record keeping of animal ID, synchronization, heat detection, veterinary care, animal movements, pregnancy status and calving dates at all times, for all ABS animals.
  • Ensure high standards of livestock health and hygiene, including daily observation of cattle, feeding, bedding, facility hygiene, and manure removal as needed.
  • Maintain professional verbal and written communications with co-workers, internal and external customers, and vendors always.
  • Be flexible with respect to job responsibilities and hours and consistently strive to be an effective team member.
  • Partake in weekly meetings with the Genetic Nucleus team.
  • Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.
