The Phlebotomist draws blood and obtains various specimens from patients with minimum discomfort and pain for the performance of clinical laboratory testing.

Responsibilities

→Maintain accuracy in all work; Complete tasks on time and per any deadlines, label specimens with a high degree of accuracy, ensure proper tubes are used for each blood test ordered
→Verify the identity of every patient before collecting any samples
→Identification and sample collection using paper orders in the event of an interruption in computer service
→Be aware of Medicare guidelines, send-out test requirements, and special tests; Explain Medicare ABNs to patients clearly and accurately
→Perform venipuncture and finger/heel stick procedures with a high degree of professionalism and concern for the patient, including a minimum of 2 sticks per encounter
→Collect nasal and throat swabs and blood cultures when needed
