The Activities Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of the activities program that is stimulating and that fosters a positive atmosphere through leisure activities that meet the spiritual, cultural, physical, intellectual and social needs of residents both inside and outside the Community. Coordinating the activity program includes scheduling of activities, both individual and groups, implementing and/or delegating the implementation of the programs, monitoring the response and/or reviewing/evaluating the response to the programs to determine if the activities meet the assessed needs of the resident, and making revisions as necessary. This includes the completion and/or directing/delegating the completion of the activities component of the comprehensive assessment; and contributing to and/or directing/delegating the contribution to the comprehensive care plan goals and approaches that are individualized to match the skills, abilities, and interests/preferences of each resident. This position identifies the medically related social and emotional needs of the resident and arranges for the meeting of these needs through appropriate referrals to social service agencies, community resources and professional services.

Activities Coordinator (OTA): $37.00 - $52.75
Activities Coordinator (with CNA): $26.91 - $38.27
Activities Coordinator (no certification): $25.41 - $36.23

Requirements

Education Required:

An Activities Coordinator shall meet one of the following requirements:

  • Possess Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five (5) years, one (1) year of which was full-time in a resident activities program in a health care setting, or,
  • Have current certification as an occupational therapist (OT), art therapist, music therapist, dance therapist, recreation therapist or occupational therapy assistant (OTA), or,
  • Have satisfactorily completed at least thirty-six (36) hours of training in a course designed specifically for this position and approved by the Department or is willing to complete this training within three months from date of hire. The incumbent meeting this criteria shall receive regular consultation from an occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant or recreation therapist who has at least one (1) year of experience in a health care setting.

    • Current BLS First Aid/CPR certification or willing to obtain within three months from date of hire.
    • Current, valid driver’s license.

     

    Experience Preferred:

    • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a long-term care setting.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Shows adaptability to varied situations, is empathetic, enthusiastic, creative and a resourceful personality
    • Federal and state regulations for activities programs (CMS and California Title 22)
    • Principles of therapeutic recreation and/or occupational therapy
    • Aging process, dementia, and common conditions affecting the elderly and disabled populations
    • Psychosocial needs and quality-of-life standards for long-term care residents
    • Assessment and care planning processes

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, evaluate, and supervise the activity program.
    • The program shall be designed to make life more meaningful, to stimulate and support physical and mental capabilities to the fullest extent, to enable the patient to maintain the highest attainable social, physical and emotional functioning but not necessarily to correct or remedy a disability.
    • Activity program shall consist of individual, small and large group activities which are designed to meet the needs and interests of each resident and which include, but are not limited to:
      • Social activities,
      • Indoor and out-of-doors activities, which may include supervised daily walks,
      • Activities away from the facility.
      • Religious programs.
      • Opportunity for resident involvement for planning and implementation of the activity program.
      • Creative activities.
      • Educational activities.
      • Exercise activities.
    • Activities shall be available on a daily basis.
