Linux Systems Administrator

Persistent Systems is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team at our headquarters in NYC.  The Linux Systems Administrator will play a critical role in ensuring our Linux servers and systems are configured and running optimally.  This individual will solve complex database problems and play a critical role in the overall success of the organization.  This is an exciting opportunity for individuals that enjoy working in a collaborative environment and enjoy making a difference. 

• →Design and manage the installation, configuration and maintenance of Linux servers and workstations
• →Provide technical support for computer network issues
• →Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issues
• →Design integrated computer systems
• →Test computer hardware performance
• →Test software performance
• →Document operational activities
• →Install computer hardware
• →Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with best practices.
• →Perform system monitoring, integrity verification, and availability of hardware, server resources, and key processes
• →Perform regular security monitoring to identify any intrusions
• →Create, execute, and maintain data backup plan
• →Ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media
• →Create, change, and or delete user accounts as required
• →Responsible for hardware/software asset management and deployment for new and existing employees
• →Provide help desk support and resolve issues for end-users

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
• Proficiency with Bash, Python, or a UNIX oriented scripting language (particularly with a focus on automation)
• Minimum of 6 years of systems administration experience in a small to medium sized business’s IT team
• Experience working in a Linux environment as a system administrator
• Familiarity with basic networking (IP addresses, routing, firewalls)
• Familiarity with configuration management tools
• Must have a US Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

• Master’s degree in computer science or related field
• 10 years of systems administration experience
• Experience in Ansible
• CompTIA Linux+ Certification
• Experience working in an Enterprise Linux environment with any distribution
• Experience with LUKS encryption and LVM management at scale
• SELinux or AppArmor Endpoint Management
• Containerization experience with Docker or equivalent a huge plus
• Server Endpoint Automation and Deployment with Kubernetes or equivalent
• CompTIA Server+ Certification
• Red Hat Certified Engineer Certification

The total compensation for this role can vary from $125,000 to $156,000 a year based on individual qualifications. Eligibility for yearly discretionary bonus.
