The Packaging Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing packaging solutions that support the organization’s product development and manufacturing processes. This position develops and improves packaging designs, prototypes, specifications, and testing methods to ensure products are adequately protected while meeting quality, cost, manufacturing, transportation, and customer requirements.

• Design and develop parcel, pallet, and crate-based packaging solutions, including oversized palletized crates, based on product specifications, physical characteristics, handling requirements, environmental conditions, customer requirements, and manufacturing processes.• Support and manage assigned packaging development projects, including design, material selection, prototype development, testing, validation, and implementation.• Review engineering drawings and product specifications to determine packaging requirements and identify potential packaging concerns.• Troubleshoot new and existing packaging issues related to design, materials, suppliers, manufacturing processes, transportation, storage, and product protection.• Develop and maintain packaging specifications, drawings, documentation, and design standards in accordance with established engineering practices.• Develop and execute packaging test plans to validate designs and ensure they meet applicable customer, quality, transportation, and internal requirements.• Evaluate packaging materials, components, and design alternatives to improve product protection, quality, efficiency, and cost.• Work with packaging suppliers to develop prototypes, obtain samples, resolve quality issues, and support implementation of new packaging solutions.• Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Sourcing, Quality, and other cross-functional teams on packaging development and improvement projects.• Participate in new product introduction and product development teams to support packaging requirements, testing, and launch activities.• Work with Manufacturing to ensure packaging designs are practical, efficient, and optimized for manufacturability, assembly, handling, and storage.• Assist with evaluating packaging suppliers and monitoring supplier performance related to quality, cost, delivery, and technical requirements.• Identify and implement opportunities for packaging cost reduction, material optimization, standardization, and process improvement.• Research and recommend appropriate packaging materials, technologies, tools, and testing methods.• Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting established timelines and deliverables.• Monitor packaging performance following implementation and assist with corrective and continuous improvement activities.• Maintain accurate packaging documentation, specifications, test results, and project records.• Stay current on packaging technologies, materials, industry practices, and applicable standards.• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas:o Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.o Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.o Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.o Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.o Physics - Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.• Communication Skills - Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Education and Formal Training:• Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Packaging Engineering field required.

Experience:• Must have 3-6+ years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging.• Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards is essential.• Demonstrable proficiency in 3D CAD software is needed.• ERP system required (SAP preferred)• Prior experience with developing packaging for shipping equipment in dry vans preferred.• Experience with palletized oversized equipment is preferred.• Must be able to demonstrate project management skills and experience, project management certification a plus.• Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook and Internet Explorer. The pay for this position is dependent upon experience, between $98,521.50 and $133,287.00.
