The Director of Investor Relations provides continuous support and monitoring of the Territory’s investment fund manager/consultant group and ensures the portfolio reflects the established investment policies and strategies for optimum financial return on investments. Monitors the performance of investment managers, current economic and market conditions that may affect the portfolio and make recommendations to the Territorial Investment Committee.

 

This position requires approximately 35 hours of work per week and is onsite at our Eastern Territorial Headquarters in West Nyack, NY.

Responsibilities

1. Serves as the primary contact for the Territory’s investment fund manager/consultant group. Continuously monitor the performance to ensure effectiveness and compliance with Salvation Army investment policies and strategies. Collaboratively work with investment fund manager/consultant to recommend fund managers.

2. Serves as the secretary of the Territorial Investment Committee. Work with the Committee to review the portfolio performance, the investment policies and strategy as well as to employ strategies that will maximize investment returns.

3. Utilizes original research and the investment fund manager/consultant group to identify and assess investment managers and various assets to determine suitability for The Salvation Army.

4. Monitor, track, review and report on all investment holdings, activity and performance. Ensures that proper reporting is delivered to the Territorial Finance Council on a timely basis.

5. Communicate with investment managers if warning signs appear or as needed.

6. Approves money manager fee billings for accuracy and negotiates fee structure on an ongoing basis, based on size of the investment and market conditions.

7. Studies market trends at a macroeconomic level to assist in future investment strategic planning.

8. Stays up to date and knowledgeable regarding new asset classes, investment strategies, and investment law.

9. Communicates frequently with the Territorial Controller to assess cash needs to assure adequate liquidity in the portfolio. Consults with the Territory’s investment fund manager/consultant group to determine sources of funds to meet liquidity needs.

10. Serves as the primary contact for relevant financial institutions (Bank of America, JPM Chase, US Bank and TD Bank). Ensure Financial Covenant Compliance Certificates required under the Credit Agreements. This requires an in-depth understanding of the assets and liabilities reported on the audited financial statements, and the investment assets reported on the Portfolio reports.

11. Prepares materials and data for the Annual Investment Stewardship Report. Works with the Communications department to produce the report annually in the month of May.

12. Attends and participates in the Business Administration Commission meeting held annually; reports to the Commission on the territorial investment performance, portfolio structural changes, and manager changes.

13. Serves as the primary contact for the Territory’s debt management company. Continuously monitors the performance and seeks effective strategies to reduce the debt. Provides a monthly report to the debt management company of cash balances held at US Bank and the Bank of New York Mellon as well as funds under the Bank of America Master Credit Facility. On a monthly basis, analyze and determine the cash needs to meet the interest payment obligations under the interest rate swaps program.

14. Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of the Administration Assistant.

15. Assists the Secretary for Business Administration with preparation of the annual business administration budget. Monitors investor relations budget expenditures.

16. Attends investment virtual meetings for the Employees’ Pension Plan Trust as needed.

17. Completes special projects as assigned by the Secretary for Business Administration.

18. Other Duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

• Genuine alignment with the mission of The Salvation Army.

• Strong background in finance, corporate communications, and capital markets.

• A bachelor's or master's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration.

• A minimum of eight years of experience in investor relations.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly.

• Superb oral and written communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail while multi-tasking and ensuring deadlines are met.

• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification strongly preferred.
