  • Lead field safety reviews and verify that technicians and contractors follow site requirements for lockout/tagout, permits, electrical safety, guarding, and other applicable hazards; stop and escalate unsafe work.
  • Confirm appropriate skills, procedures, tools, and equipment isolation before work starts. Verify repair quality, testing, housekeeping, and readiness before returning equipment to Operations.
  • Supervise technician performance, attendance, and work assignments; provide coaching, performance reviews, and consistent accountability in coordination with the Maintenance Engineering Leader and Human Resources.
  • Build technician skills through a maintained skills matrix, cross-training, mentoring, and development plans; support recruiting and onboarding.
  • Maintain regular contact with day and night crews. Establish shift lead responsibilities, backup coverage, and escalation expectations within site policy.
  • Maintain an approved on-call and backup coverage plan for 24/7 operations, including escalation contacts, vacation coverage, and response expectations.
  • Ensure clear shift handovers covering equipment condition, work in progress, isolations, temporary repairs, outstanding risks, and next-shift priorities.
  • Review work priorities with Operations and the planner; confirm staffing and equipment access for the weekly schedule, then assign daily work based on technician skills and available capacity.
  • Direct breakdown response and troubleshooting; coordinate support and communicate equipment status, recovery expectations, and changes in priority.
  • Remove barriers to execution, monitor progress, and manage schedule changes. Document emergency work and return deferred jobs to the backlog with clear status.
  • Review the ready backlog with the planner and Operations to use available production downtime effectively for approved maintenance and engineering work.
  • Provide field input and feedback to the planner on job scope, labor estimates, safety requirements, and job steps. The planner prepares future work packages and coordinates the weekly schedule; the supervisor owns daily assignments and execution.
  • Ensure preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance is completed; verify quality, follow up on inspection findings, and escalate overdue critical work or unresolved defects.
  • Partner with Reliability and Engineering to investigate recurring failures, identify follow-up repairs, and improve maintenance tasks and equipment performance.
  • Support outage scope and resource reviews with the planner and outage coordinator. Lead assigned technicians and contractors during execution, track milestones, and communicate risks and changes.
  • Verify repair completion and equipment turnover; contribute to post-outage reviews and capture unfinished work and lessons learned.
  • Lead assigned maintenance improvement projects through completion, including safety, schedule, cost, and equipment turnover.
  • Use the CMMS proficiently to review backlog, assign work, monitor progress, and verify closeout records, including labor, parts, findings, failure information, and follow-up work.
  • Use SAP for assigned maintenance cost, materials, and purchasing workflows. Coordinate parts needs, reservations, shortages, and issue or return records with the storeroom/planner under defined system ownership.
  • Manage overtime, contractor use, and maintenance spending within delegated authority; identify variances and communicate resource needs.
  • Assist the Maintenance Engineering Leader with the annual operating budget, spending forecasts, and upcoming maintenance needs.
  • Ensure that labor, materials, requisitions, and contractor charges are assigned to the correct work orders, assets, and cost centers under site procedures.
  • Help determine when outside expertise is needed, define technical requirements, and evaluate contractor quality and vendor performance with Engineering and Purchasing.
