C-Care Wellkin is recruiting a Perfusionist to join its team. Job Purpose The Perfusionist is responsible for operating the heart-lung machine and other extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac and other surgical procedures.
Operate and monitor the heart-lung machine and related equipment during open-heart surgery and other procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass. Manage extracorporeal circulation to maintain the patient’s physiological and metabolic needs.
The Perfusionist is responsible for operating the heart-lung machine and other extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac and other surgical procedures. The role ensures that patients’ circulatory and respiratory functions are maintained and supported throughout surgery, in collaboration with the surgical and anaesthesia teams.
- Operate and monitor the heart-lung machine and related equipment during open-heart surgery and other procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.
- Manage extracorporeal circulation to maintain the patient’s physiological and metabolic needs.
- Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot perfusion equipment, ensuring readiness and safety.
- Administer blood products, medications, and fluids via the perfusion circuit as required.
- Monitor and record physiological parameters such as blood flow, blood gases, and temperature during procedures.
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control protocols.
- Participate in training, research, and continuous professional development activities7
- Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Perfusion Technology or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the relevant professional council (where applicable).
- Minimum 3 - 5years of clinical experience in cardiac perfusion; experience in both adult and/or paediatric cardiac surgery will be an advantage.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm, precise, and focused under pressure.
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
